குறளின் குரல் - 1135

இமைப்பின் கரப்பாக்கு அறிவல் அனைத்திற்கே

ஏதிலர் என்னும்இவ் வூர்.

                        (குறள் 1129: காதற்சிறப்புரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)

இமைப்பின் - நான் கண்ணை இமைத்துவிட்டால்

கரப்பாக்கு - தெரியாமல் மறைந்துவிடுவார் (கண்ணில் இமைக்கும் நேரத்துக்கு)

அறிவல் - என்று நான் அறிவேன்

அனைத்திற்கே - ஆனால் அதற்கே

ஏதிலர் - அன்பிலான் (காதலனை)

என்னும் இவ்வூர் - என்று சொல்லும் (தூங்கா நோய் தந்தான் என்று) இவ்வூரானது.

கண்ணிலேயே நான் கட்டி வைத்திருக்கும் என் காதலர், கண்ணிமைக்கும் நேரமெல்லாம் காணாதொளிவாரே என்று நான் அறிவேன். ஆதலில் கண்ணை இமைக்காமல் கூட, அதாவது தூங்காமலே இருக்கிறேன். ஆனால் அதற்கே இவ்வூரானது எனக்குத் தூங்கா நோய் தந்தானென்று என் காதலரை தூற்றும் என்று காதலி சொல்கிறாள் இக்குறளின்.

காதல் மிகுதியால், சரியாக உண்ணாததையும், கண்ணில் மையிடாததையும் கூறிய வள்ளுவர், இக்குறளில் கண்ணில் நிறைந்த கண்ணாளனைக் கட்டி வைப்பதற்காக தூங்கா நோயில் ஆழ்ந்தாள் காதலி என்றும் கூறுவது காதல் தலைமகளை அது படுத்தும் பாட்டினை புலப்படுத்துகிறது.

Transliteration:

Imaippin karappAkku aRival anaithiRkE

Ethilar ennumiv vUr

Imaippin – if I blink my eyes as it is normal to do so

karappAkku – he will abscond from my eyes for that duration

aRival – so I know..

anaithiRkE – But for that alone

Ethilar – as if loveless (the lover)

ennumiv vUr – will accuse him this town

Fearing mylover, that I have binded in my eyes, would disappear for the duration, I blink, I would not blink and hence sleepless. But even for that the people of the town would blame only my lover as loveless; saying so the maiden professes her love for her man.

With excess of love the maiden has already not anointed her self eye-pigment, nor eat properly, as expressed in the previous verses. In this verse, by being sleepless, VaLLuvar conveys how much of a “trouble-maker”, the love to a maiden is!

“Fearing my lover would dissaper, I wouldn’t blink my eyes even for short duration,

 But the people of town would blame him for that, that he lacks love and adoration”
