உவந்துறைவர் உள்ளத்துள் என்றும் இகந்துறைவர்

ஏதிலர் என்னும்இவ் வூர்.

                        (குறள் 1130: காதற்சிறப்புரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)

உவந்து உறைவர் - மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் இருக்கின்றார் (என்னுடைய காதலர்)

உள்ளத்துள் என்றும் - எப்போது என் உள்ளத்திலேயே

இகந்து உறைவர் - என்னை நீங்கி இருக்கிறார்

ஏதிலர் - அன்பில்லா என் காதலர்

என்னும் இவ்வூர் - என்று பழித்துச் சொல்லும் இவ்வூரானது.

காதலி, தன்னுடைய காதலர் தன்னுடைய உள்ளத்திலேயே நீங்காது உறைகிறார் என்றும், ஆனால் அது புரியாத இவ்வூரானது, அவர் என்னொடு இருப்பதை இகழ்ந்து வேறு எங்கோ இருக்கிறார், அன்பில்லாமல் என்று அவரைத் துற்றிச் சொல்லும். உலகம் உண்மை அன்பை உணராமையையும், அத்துடன் அவர் நீங்கா நெஞ்சகத்துறைந்தது அறியாமையும் ஒருங்கே கூறுகிறார் வள்ளுவர். “உவந்து உறைவார்” என்றமையால், காதல் அன்பின் மிகுதியில் தாமாகவே வந்து நெஞ்சு நிறைந்ததையும், தலைவியின் வற்புறுத்தலினால் அல்ல என்பதையும் அவள் தெரிவிக்கிறாள்.

Transliteration:

uvanduRaivar uLLattuL enRum ikanduRaivar

Edilar ennumiv vUr.

Uvand(u) uRaivar – He resides happily (says the maiden)

uLLattuL enRum - in my heart forever

ikand(u) uRaivar – (but) he has left me in despise

Edilar – being loveless

Ennum ivvUr – says the world! (after all what do they know about his love!)

Maiden in love says tha her love resides in her heart happily forever. “Not knowing this, the world blames him (as if they would know him better than I do) that he is loveless and has left me in despise. Regardless of what the world thinks of him, he with abundant lover on his own, come to stay in my heart happily”, says the maiden in love. She strongly feels that the world would not know his love for her afterall. The world “uvandu” implies his love for her – no that she has forced him to stay, but he on his own accord has come to stay in her heart.

“Not knowing that my lover forever resides in my heart happily,

 the world thinks, he is loveless and in despise left, mercilessly”
