துன்னாத் துறந்தாரை நெஞ்சத்து உடையேமா
இன்னும் இழத்தும் கவின்.
(குறள் 1250:
நெஞ்சொடு கிளத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
துன்னாத் - நம்மை அன்பொடு கூடாமல்
துறந்தாரை - விட்டொழித்தாரை
நெஞ்சத்து - உள்ளத்தில்
உடையேமா - கொள்வோமாயின்
இன்னும்
- இருக்கின்ற
இழத்தும் கவின் - அழகையும் இழப்போம்
காதலாழ்பட்ட பெண், தன்னை விட்டுச் சென்ற காதலனை
நொந்து, நெஞ்சுக்கு இவ்வாறு கூறுவாள்: “நெஞ்சே! நம்மை அன்போடு கூடாமல், விட்டொழித்துச்
சென்றவரை, நீ இன்னும் உள்ளத்தில் கொள்வாயாயின், உன்னுடைய உள்ளத்தழகையும் இழந்துபடுவாய்;
ஏற்கனவே அவனை நினைந்து, பிறிவாற்றாமையில் உறுப்பு நலன்களை இழந்திருக்கிறோம்”. இவ்வாறு
கூறி, நெஞ்சோடு பேசும் இவ்வதிகாரத்தை நிறைவு செய்கிறார் வள்ளுவர்.
Transliteration:
thunnAt tuRandArai nenjattu uDaiyEmA
innum izhattum kavin
thunnAt – Not being with me with love
tuRandArai – he who renounced and went away
nenjattu – in the heart
uDaiyEmA – if we still carry
innum – even the left out
izhattum kavin – beauty will be lost
The maiden in love, complains about the
lover that has left her, to her heart thus: “O! My heart!, If you still carry
the man that left me abandoning, not being bonded in love, in your abode, even
the beauty left out will corrode and be lost; As such not able to bear his
being away we have lost the beauty of the body, eyes and shoulders etc. Only
the heart is intact. Even that inner beauty shall be lost. Saying this vaLLuvar
completes this chapter on Speaking to heart.
“If you still carry him, that left abandoning, in your abode,
O! my heart! Even the
beauty that remains, shall corrode!”
