பசப்பெனப் பேர்பெறுதல் நன்றே நயப்பித்தார்
நல்காமை தூற்றார் எனின்.
பசப்பெனப் - நான் பசலையுற்றவள் என்று
பேர் பெறுதல் - பேரை ஊராரிடமிருந்து பெறுதல்
நன்றே - நல்லதே
நயப்பித்தார் - என்னைத் தன்பிரிவுக்கு உடன் படச் செய்தார்
நல்காமை - என் மீது அன்பை அருளாமையை
தூற்றார் எனின் - ஊரார் தூற்றார் என்றால்
என்னைத் தன்பிரிவுக்கு
உடன்படச் செய்து தான் நீங்கி எனக்கு துன்பமே தந்தாலும், அதன் காரணமாக என் அன்பரை, அன்பு
நல்காதவர் என்று ஊரார் பழி தூற்றுதலிலும், இவள் பசலை வயப்பட்டாள் என்று பலர் அறிய நேர்தல்
நன்றே என்கிறாள் காதற் தலைவி.
பெண்ணை ஒரு
ஆணின் அன்புக்காக ஏங்குபவளாக, ஒரு மனவலியற்றவளாக சித்தரிப்பது வள்ளுவர் கால சிந்தனையாக இருப்பினும்,
நிகழ் கால பெண்ணியக்கச் சிந்தனைக்கு ஒவ்வாததாகவே இருக்கிறது.
Transliteration:
Pasappenap pErpeRudal nanRE nayappittAr
nalgAmai tURRAr enin
Pasappenap – that I have grown pale in hue
pEr peRudal – to get such tag by those that see me
nanRE – is better (than)
nayappittAr – my beloved who made me agree to his
leaving me
nalgAmai – his lovelessness
tURRAr enin – is not blamed by all.
My lover
who convinced me to agree to his leaving, though gave only pain, I don’t want
the towns people to call him loveless; I would rather have them simply blame me
for growing pale in hue, the maiden shows her compassion for her lover, despite
growing pale.
Perhaps,
to show women as weak and lacking strength in mind was the thought of
VaLLuvars’ era. The present day thinking and realities are mostly on the
opposite end of the spectrum only.
