மனமாணா உட்பகை தோன்றின் இனமாணா

ஏதம் பலவும் தரும்.

                        (குறள் 884: உட்பகை அதிகாரம்)

மனமாணா - உள்ளத்தில் மாட்சிமை இல்லாது, குன்றி

உட்பகை தோன்றின் - தம்மனோர்க்கே கேடு செய்யும் உட்பகை கொண்டால்

இனமாணா - தம் சுற்றம், உற்றார்க்கே மாட்சிமை இல்லாது செய்யும்படியான

ஏதம் பலவும் - குற்றங்கள் பலவும்

தரும் - அது தரும்.

இக்குறள் உட்பகையால் தம் சுற்றத்தாருக்கும் மாட்சிமைக் குன்றும் என்பதைச் சொல்லுகிறது. உள்ளத்திலே மாட்சிமை குன்றி, அதன் காரணம் பற்றி தாம் சார்ந்து இருப்பவருக்கே கேடு நினைக்கும் பகைகொள்வார்க்கு, அவருடைய சுற்றமும், உற்றாரும் மாட்சிமை குன்றும்படியான குற்றங்கள் பலவும் அவருடைய உட்பகையானது தரும்.

உட்பகை குற்றமட்டுமல்லாது ஒருவருடைய மாட்சிமையக் குலைப்பது என்பதும், அவரோடு மட்டும் நில்லாது அவருடைய சுற்றத்துக்குமே அந்த மாட்சிமைக்கேடு சேரும் என்பதும் இக்குறளினால், பெறப்படுகிறது.

Transliteration:

manamANA uTpagai thOnRin inamANA

Edham palavum tharum.

manamANA – Without greatness in mind

uTpagai thOnRin – if somebody nurtures enmity towards people that trust

inamANA – for the greatness and the glory of the kith and kin to diminish and vanish

Edham palavum – many hurtful ills

tharum – it will lead to.

This verse points out the enmity fostered within willl not only ruin self, but also the kit and kin. Without any greatness of mind, if somebody fosters enmity within out of malice, it will not only  bring ill to self, but to the entire kith and kin for them to lose any glory they have.

The emphasis is that such enmity within, is not only evil, but brings down the excellence of somebody as well as the close kith and kind.

“Twisted mind that nurtures enmity within will not only lose its glory,

 but of its own kin for them to suffer ills of many evils and be sorry”
