வினைசெய்வார் தம்சுற்றம் வேண்டாதார் என்றாங்கு

அனைவரையும் ஆராய்வது ஒற்று.

                            (குறள் 584: ஒற்றாடல் அதிகாரம்)

வினைசெய்வார் - ஒற்றாடல் வினையிலே ஈடுபட்டிருப்பவர்

தம்சுற்றம் - தம்முடைய சுற்றத்தவர்

வேண்டாதார் - தமக்குச் சுற்றமில்லாதவர்

என்றாங்கு அனைவரையும் - என்ற பாகுபாடுகள் இல்லாமல் எல்லோரையும்

ஆராய்வது - ஒன்றாகவே கொண்டு ஆராய்வது

ஒற்று - ஒற்றுத்தொழிலாகும்.

ஒற்றுத் தொழிலில் ஈடுபட்டவர்கள், சிலரைத் தமக்கு உற்ற சுற்றம் போன்றும்,  மற்றவர்களை நமக்கு வேண்டாதவர்கள் என்றுமில்லாமல் அனைவரையும் ஒன்றுபோல ஆராய்ந்து தகவல்களைப் பெறுவதே அவர்கள் செய்யும் ஒற்றுத் தொழிலுக்கு அழகாகும். அத்தகையவர்களே ஒற்றர்களாவார்கள். இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து இதுதான்.  இவ்வதிகாரத்தின் இரண்டாவது குறளில் அரசனுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்ட சார்பில்லா நிலையை, இக்குறளில் ஒற்றுத்தொழிலில் நேரடியாக ஈடுபட்டவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Transliteration:

VinaiseivAr thamsuRRam vENDAdAr enRAngu

anaivaraiyum ArAivadu oRRu

VinaiseivAr – Those who are indulged in the espionage operations

thamsuRRam – their kith and kin

vENDAdAr – or they are not ours, but enemies

enRAngu anaivaraiyum – without feeling such biases, towards all

ArAivadu – investigate (everyone the same)

oRRu – such posture is what is fitting for espionage operatives

Those who work as spying operatives for espionage organizations must operate without the biases of viewing some as their own kith and kin and others with contempt or disdain. Only such deportment is suitable for their line of work abd they are true spies.

The same has been emphasized for a ruler in the 2^nd verse of this chapter who oversees the spies. This verse and the 2^nd verse together define the biasless nature of the entire organization of espionage from top to bottom.

“Those engaged in spying must never discriminate anyone

 As own or not theirs - Etiquette defined for that profession.”
