அறன்ஆக்கம் வேண்டாதான் என்பான் பிறனாக்கம்

பேணாது அழுக்கறுப் பான்.

                  (குறள் 163: அழுக்காறாமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

aRan Akkam vEnDAdhAn enbAn piRanAkkam

pENAdhu azhukkaruppAn

aRan  - virtuous life that gives all the good in this and subsequent births

Akkam  - the wealth obtained because of that like good family, education, respectable status etc.

vEnDAdhAn – who does like them for self

enbAn – and says so

piRanAkkam – watching others living well

pENAdhu – can’t tolerate

azhukkaruppAn – out of envy, jealousy

“Even if I lose both eyes, other person should lose at least one” is an extremely cynical and sinful thought born out of jealousy. This verse has been written for such envious people. Those who can not bear when others live in prosperity, lose perspective of the virtuous life that gives all benefits such as good subsequent births, education, and respect in the society. It is as if they say that they don’t want such nice things in life.

Though it is impossible to think that someone would actually say that, vaLLuvar implies, being so jealous tantamount to declaring so. So he cautions envious people this way that they are pushing away good things in their life. There is an old proverb that says: “Enemy’s envy is a punishment to himself”.  Hearing Kunthi has given birth to a male child, GAndhAri, hit her stomach in extreme jealous that her child was not the first to the clan and would automatically lose the right to kingdom. We know that resulted in the birth of 100 bad children, Dhuryodana and his ninety nine brothers. That completely wiped out the Kaurava clan as well GhAndhAri’s parental family too.

“Those who don’t want virtuous life and ensuing wealth

   Are jealous of others propertity, dwell in the envious filth”

தமிழிலே:

அறன் – தனக்கு இப்பிறப்பு, மற்றும் பின்வரும் பிறவிகளில் நன்மையும் தரக்கூடிய அறநெறி வாழ்க்கை

ஆக்கம் – அதனால் பெறக்கூடிய செல்வமெனப்படும், குடிப்பிறப்பு, கல்வி, கற்றோரிடம் மதிப்பு போன்றவை

வேண்டாதான் – இவற்றை தனக்கு தேவையில்லை

என்பான் – என்று சொல்பவன்

பிறனாக்கம் – மற்றவர் வளமுடன் வாழுதலை

பேணாது – கண்டு அதை சகியாது

அழுக்கறுப்பான் – பொறாமையில் வெம்புகிறவன்.

“தான் இருகண்களை இழந்தாலும் சரி, அடுத்தவனுக்கு ஒரு கண்ணாவது அவிய வேண்டும்” என்கிற தீய எண்ணத்தை உடைய பொறாமைக்காரர்களுக்காக எழுதப்பட்ட குறளிது.  மற்றவர்கள் வளமுடன் வாழ்வதைக் கண்டு பொறாமையில் வெம்புகிறவர்கள், தங்களுக்கு இப்பிறப்பு மற்றும் ஏனைய வரும் பிறப்புகளிலும் நன்மைதரக் கூடிய அறவாழ்வினையும், அவ்வாழ்வினால் விளையக்கூடிய செல்வங்களான நற்குடிப்பிறப்பு, கல்வி, கற்றோரிடம் மதிப்பு மற்றும் பலவித நன்மைகளையும் தனக்குத் தேவையில்லை என்று சொல்பவர்களாக் கருதலாம்.

யாரும் அப்படி நினைக்கமாட்டார்கள் எனினும், பொறாமைக்காரர்களுக்கு இவையெல்லாம் கிடைக்காது என்பதை அவர்களுக்கு உணர்த்துவிதமாக, அவர்கள் இன்னவற்றை வேண்டாமென்பார்கள் என்கிறார் வள்ளுவர். “சத்துரு பொறாமை தனக்கே தண்டனை” என்கிற பழமொழி கூறுவதும் இக்கருத்தைத்தான். காந்தாரி, குந்தி பிள்ளைப்பெற்றாள் என்று அறிந்து பொறாமையால் உந்தப்பட்டு தன்வயிற்றை மோதிக்கொண்டதன் விளைவு, அவள் குலமே வேரோடு அழிய துரியோதனன் உள்ளிட்ட நூறு தீக்குணப் பிள்ளைகளைத் தந்து அவளுடைய குடும்பத்தோடு அழித்ததுமில்லாமல், அவள் பிறந்த வீட்டு உறவுகளையும் அழித்தது.

இன்றெனது குறள்:

அழுக்காற்றில் மாற்றார் உயர்வை பொறாதார்

விழுப்பறனும் ஆக்கமும்வேண் டார்
