பேணாது பெட்பவே செய்யினும் கொண்கனைக்

காணா தமையல கண்.

                           (குறள் 1283: புணர்ச்சிவிதும்பல் அதிகாரம்)

பேணாது - என் விருப்பைக் கருதி ஓம்பார்

பெட்பவே செய்யினும் - தாம் விரும்பியதையே செய்தாலும்

கொண்கனைக் - என் அன்பரைக்

காணாது அமையல - காணது அமைதியுறா என்னுடைய

கண் - கண்கள்.

தன் அன்பர் தன்னலம் மட்டும் பாராட்டி தனது விருப்பங்களைச் சற்றும் கருத்தில் கொண்டு ஓம்பார் என்றாலும், அவரைக் காணாமல் காதற்தலைவியின் கண்கள் அமைதி கொள்வதில்லையாம். அவர் சென்ற வழி நோக்கி, வரும் நாளை பார்த்திருக்கும் என்று தன் தோழிக்குக் கூறுகிறாள் காதற்தலைவி. 

இந்நிலையைப் பல இலக்கியப் பாடல்களும் சுட்டுகின்றன.

“துனிநீர் கூட்டமொடு துன்னாராயினும்

இனிதே காணுநர்க் காண்புழி வாழ்தல்” என்று நற்றிணை (216:1-2) பாடல் கூறுவதும்,

“காதலர் நல்கார் நயவா ராயினும்

பல்காற் காண்டலும் உள்ளத்துக்கினிதே” என்று குறுந்தொகை (60:4-6) பாடல் கூறுவதும்,

“கடியன் கொடியன் நெடியமால் உலகங் கொண்ட

அடியன் அறிவரு மேனி மாயத்த னாகிலும்

கொடியவென் நெஞ்சம் அவனென்றே கிடக்கும்” என்று திருவாய்மொழி (5.3:5) பாடல் கூறுவது இந் நிலையைத்தான்.

Transliteration:

pENAdu peTpavE seyyinum kONkanaik

kANA damayala kaN”

pENAdu – though not considering my desires

peTpavE seyyinum – doing what he pleases

kONkanaik – without seeing my dear husband

kANAd(u) amayala – will not rest without seeing him

kaN – my eyes

“Though my beloved husband, takes care of his desires exclusively and does not care for my desires, still my eyes will not rest until they see him again”, says the maiden to her friend, looking forward to his return. Though the maiden may be upset and exhibit anger, frustration etc., her eyes still are looking forward to his return.

This is a familiar situation and them depicted in many literature of almost same period and later too. naRRinai, kuRuntogai and thiruvAimozh are some of the works where the thought of this verse have been said.

“Though he not taking care of my desires, but only his,

 shall not rest until the return of my husband, my eyes”

இன்றெனது குறள்:

அன்பரைக் காணாதோ யாதென்கண் காவாது

தன்விருப்பே தாம்செய்யி னும்

(அன்பரைக் காணாது ஓயாது என்கண் காவாது தன்விருப்பே தாம் செய்யினும்)
