நயனொடு நன்றி புரிந்த பயனுடையார்

பண்புபா ராட்டும் உலகு.

                                    (குறள் 994: பண்புடைமை அதிகாரம்)

நயனொடு - நீதி, மற்றும் உயரிய அறம் சார்ந்த கொள்கை கொண்டு

நன்றி புரிந்த - பிறர்க்கு நன்மையே புரிகின்ற

பயனுடையார் - பயனுள்ளவராக இருப்பவர்தம்

பண்பு பாராட்டும் - உயரிய பண்பு நலத்தைப் மெச்சிடும்

உலகு - இவ்வுலகு.

உயரிய அறம் மற்றும் நீதி சார்ந்த கொள்கை கொண்டு, பிறர்க்கு எப்போதும் நன்மையே புரிந்து தம்மை பயனுள்ளவராக செய்து கொள்பவரின் உயரிய பண்பு நலத்தை மெச்சி உவக்கும் இவ்வுலகம் என்பது இக்குறளின் பொருள்.

குறள் சொல்லும் உலகம் இன்று இல்லை; ஒருவன் நீதிமானாகவும், அறம் சார்ந்தவனாகவும், எப்போதும் பிறர்க்கு நன்மையே புரிபவனாகவும் இருந்தால், அவனைப் பிழைக்கத் தெரியாதவனாக எண்ணி ஏய்க்கிறது இன்றைய உலகு. குறைந்தளவு ஒரு நல்லவனாக, பண்பாளனாகக் கூடப் பார்ப்பதில்லை இன்றைய உலகினர்.

Transliteration:

nayanoDu nanRi purinda payanuDaiyAr

paNbupA rATTum ulagu

nayanoDu – having the policy of being just

nanRi purinda – and always helping others

payanuDaiyAr – such people of use to others

paNbu pArATTum – praise their character and conduct

ulagu – this world

The character and conduct of person that are just, virtuous, always doing good to others and be useful, this world will always praise as impeccable

The world portrayed by this verse is mostly fictional today. A person just, virtous and doing only good to others is typically placed and even ridiculed among the fools that do not know how to make it good in this world. Most of the world does not even recognize such persons as good and men of character.

“Those that are just and do good to all to be useful

 the world will praise their character as impeccable”
