பல்குழுவும் பாழ்செய்யும் உட்பகையும் வேந்தலைக்கும்

கொல்குறும்பும் இல்லத நாடு

                        (குறள் 735: நாடு அதிகாரம்)

பல் குழுவும் - உட்கட்சி பூசல்களால் பலகுழுக்களாக பிரிந்து இருக்கும் ஆட்சியும்

பாழ்செய்யும் உட்பகையும் - உடனிறுந்து கெடுக்கின்ற உட் பகையும்

வேந்து அலைக்கும் - ஓர் அரசை தடுமாற வைக்கும், அலைகழிக்கும்

கொல் குறும்பும் - இறுதியில் ஆட்சியையே கொன்றழிக்கும் ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்ட சிற்றரசுகளும்

இல்லத நாடு - இல்லாமல் இருப்பதே சிறந்த நாடு.

ஒரு நாட்டின் கீழ் பல இன, மொழி, சமய, சாதி வேறுபாடுகளால் பிரிந்து பல குழுக்களாக ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஒத்துச் செல்லாமலிருப்பவர்களும், உடனிருந்தே கொல்லும் நோய்போல அடுத்திருந்தே கெடுக்கின்ற நட்புறவினர் போன்ற பகைவர்களும், ஓர் அரசை, அரசனை தடுமாற வைக்கும், இறுதியில் ஆட்சியையே கொல்லக்கூடிய குறு நில அரசர்கள், அல்லது ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட மாநிலத் தலைவர்கள், மற்றும் வலிமைமிக்க தீயோர் போன்றோரும் இல்லாது நீங்கியதே நல்ல நாடாகும்.

குடியரசுகளிலே, கூட்டாட்சி நடக்கும் நாடுகளிலே இவையெல்லாம் இன்றைக்கும் பார்க்கக்கூடியவையே. மத்திய அரசைக் கவிழ்க்கும் மாநில அரசுகளையும், அரசைச் செயல்படவிடாமல் ஆட்சியைக் கொல்லுவதையே குறியாகக் கொண்ட மாநில கட்சித் தலைவர்களயும், ஒரு கட்சியினுள்ளே பல குழுக்களாக பிரிந்திருப்பவர்களையும், தவிரவும் சாதி, சமயம், இனம், மொழி  என்ற பிரிவினைகளால் ஒரு நாட்டின் இறையாண்மையையே கேலிக்குரியதாகவும், கேள்விக்குரியதாகவும் ஆக்குபவர்களையும் இன்றும் நாம் பார்க்கிறோமே!

இக்குறளை நாட்டளவிலும், மாநில அளவிலும் ஆள்பவர்களுக்கும், ஒர் கட்சி அளவிலும் கூட வைத்துப் பார்க்கலாம்.

Transliteration:

palkuzhuvum pAzhseyyum uTpagaiyum vEndhalaikkum

kolkuRumbim illatha nADu

pal kuzhuvum – Being divided by caste, religion, language, race as different groups

pAzhseyyum uTpagaiyum – Having enemies within the system to ruin

vEndh(u) alaikkum – To continuously give trouble to ruler to kill the rule

kol kuRumbim  - regional rulers, factional leaders that of perpetually scheme to destroy

illatha nADu – when devoid the above, a state is prosperous.

A state is known to be in the state of prosperity only when it is devoid of factional, communal aspirations, and not divided into several groups based on caste, religion, language and race; when it does not have the internal enemies that ruin the rule; when it does not have small factional, regional rulers challenging the sovereignty of the nation and are out to dethrone the rule.

In today’s democratic setups existing in many nations, we see such things. Regional rulers trying to topple central governments, regional parties and opposition working to paralyze the rule by creative some havoc or other. Pseudo leaderships based on caste, religion, language and race break the society of citizens for their political gains, robbing people of good governance.

This verse can be seen in the context of central, regional rules and even within the political parties of today in many countries.

“Devoid of factional groups, internal enemies that destroy, and destabilizing,

 looting leaders that are out to dethrone and kill the rule, a state is prospering”
