வகையறச் சூழா தெழுதல் பகைவரைப்

பாத்திப் படுப்பதோ ராறு.

                          (குறள் 465: தெரிந்துசெயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

vagaiyaRach ChUzhA dhezhudhal pagaivaraip

pAththip paduppadhoa rAru

vagaiyaRach – the ways to quell

ChUzhAdh(u) - without assessing

ezhudhal – rising against (enemies)

pagaivaraip – Such enemies

pAththip paduppadh – To place permanently in their ground

OrAru – a way

One must completely think about the consequences of what rising against the presumed or real enemies would bring forth. If not, the enemies will stand in their enmity, on the grounds and stay put permanently so. vaLLuvar does not preach not to rise against the enemies, but to think about the consequences completely. Kambar also says to be clear about the enemies and what will befall as bad” before charging against.

In a later chapter of knowing the strength of enemies, another verse, “ vagaiyaRindhu thaRseidhu thaRkAppa mAyum pagaivargaL paTTa serukku”. Only when somebody thinks through and strengthens self appropriately and finds ways to protect self, the arrogance of enemies will be subdued.

Rising against the enemies, without fully, assessing how to quell

Makes them stay put in the ground they stand, permanenltly well.

தமிழிலே:

வகையறச் - இல்லாமால் இருக்கும் வகையினை (பகைவர்கள்)

சூழா(து) - ஆராயாமல்

எழுதல் - அவர்களை வெற்றி கொள்ளுவோம் என்று எழுதல்

பகைவரைப்  - அப்பகைவர்களை

பாத்திப் படுப்ப(து) - அப்பகை நிலையிலேயே நிறுத்துகிற

ஓராறு - ஓரு வழியாகும்

தமக்கு எதிராக பகையும், பகைவர்களும் இல்லாதிருக்கும் வழிகளை முற்றிலுமாக ஆராயாமல் பகையென்று கொண்டவர்களுக்கு எதிராக எழுதல்,  அப்பகையினையும், அப்பகைவரையும் உறுதியாக்கி, அவர்களைப் பகை நிலையிலேயே நிலையாக இருத்தி வைப்பதாகும்,  “என்னென்றூம் தெளிதல் தேற்றாம் யாவதீ தென்று ஓராம்” என்பார் கம்பர்.

பின்பு வரப்போகும் பகைத்திறம் தெரிதல் அதிகாரத்தில் வள்ளுவர் கூறுகிறார் இவ்வாறு: “வகையறிந்து தற்செய்து தற்காப்ப மாயும் பகைவர்கண் பட்ட செருக்கு”. வழிவகை உணர்ந்து, தன்னையும் வலிமைப்படுத்திக் கொண்டு, தற்காப்பும் தேடிக் கொண்டவரின் முன்னால் பகையின் ஆணவம் தானாகவே ஒடுங்கி விடும்
