தினற்பொருட்டால் கொல்லாது உலகெனின் யாரும்

விலைப்பொருட்டால் ஊன்றருவா ரில்.

               (குறள் 256: புலால்மறுத்தல் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

thinaRporuTTAl kollAdhu ulagenin yArum

vilaiporuTTAl UnRaruva ril

thinaRporuTTAl – for the purpose of eating (meat)

kollAdhu – not killing

ulagenin – if the world is (not killing)

yArum – none will

vilaiporuTTAl – for the sake of selling

UnRaruvar – Un+tharuvAr – people that sell meat

Il - none

Some poets write very obvious observations as poems – something like “sun is bright”. This verse is something silmilar in nature. You will also probably agree when you read the meaning of this verse.

If no one kills for food other life forms in this world, then there won’t be people that sell meat for others to buy and consume. Even if they don’t kill people that are agents for others to eat meat and those that eat meat will only go to hell after they leave this world. So by not killing for food, both the agents of meat eating (sellers) and meat eaters (consumers) are save from going to hell is implied here.

“If none to kill for eating meat in the world

 None there to sell or consume meat as food”

தினற்பொருட்டால் - உண்ணுதலுக்காக

கொல்லாது - ஓர் உயிரை கொல்லாமல் இருக்கும்

உலகெனின் - இவ்வுலகென்றால்

யாரும் - எவரும்

விலைப்பொருட்டால் - விற்பதற்காக்

ஊன்றருவா(ர்) - ஊன் விற்போர்

இல் - ஒருவரும் இல்லை

சில கவிஞர்கள் எல்லோரும் அறிந்த கருத்துக்களை பாட்டாக அமைப்பதை வேடிக்கையாகக் கூறுவதுண்டு. “குங்குமம் சிவப்பு, கூந்தல் கருப்பு” போன்ற பாடல்கள் அவை. இக்குறளும் சற்று அந்த வகையைச் சார்ந்ததுதான். குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்தைப் படித்தால் நீங்களும் அவ்வாறு நினைப்பீர்கள்.

தங்கள் உணவுக்காக பிற உயிரைக் கொல்லாதவர் இவ்வுலகில் இருப்பார்களானால், ஊனை விலைக்கு விற்பவர்களும் இருக்கமாட்டார்கள். தாங்களே கொல்லாவிட்டாலும், ஊனுண்ணல் ஒரு கொடிய நரகில் சேர்க்கும் பாவம். கொல்லாதாவர்கள், கொலை என்னும் பாவமும் கொள்ளாமல், பிறரை ஊனுண்ணல் என்னும் நரகில் சேர்க்கும் பாவத்திலும் சிக்காமல் இருப்பர் என்பது உணர்த்தப்படுகிறது..
