பொருளாட்சி போற்றாதார்க்கு இல்லை அருளாட்சி

ஆங்கில்லை ஊன்தின் பவர்க்கு.

               (குறள் 252: அருளுடமை அதிகாரம்)

poruLAtchi pORRAdhArkku illai aruLAtchi

Angkillai Unthin bavarkku

poruL Atchi – The use of wealth

pORRAdhArkku – If not carefully valued

illai – will not be there

aruLAtchi – Similarly, the grace and blessing of life and heavens after life

Angkillai – are not there

Un - meat

thinbavarkku – for those eat that (meat)

One who does not preserve and save his wealth wil not see the use of it. Simiarly people that eat meat will not benefit by the use of grace or blessing of good life in this birth as well as subsequent births too.

Parimelazhagar points out a subtle point in the verse that vaLLuvar says, “meat eaters” not about the people that kill other beings for meat. It is inconceivable that there would be a person only to cut animals fo the meat for others and not eat. vaLLuvr simply admonishes the act of eating here.

“Use none for those who can’t guard their wealth

 Nor grace of life there for that eat meat, the filth”

 (Dictionary meaning for filth is morally objectionable material)

பொருளாட்சி - பொருள் படைத்ததன் பயன்

போற்றாதார்க்கு - அப்பொருளை வைத்து பேணாதவற்கு

இல்லை - கிடைக்காது

அருளாட்சி - அருளோடு கூடிய இவ்வுலக வாழ்வும், மறைந்தபின் சுவர்கவாழ்வும் (அருளின் பயன்)

ஆங்கில்லை -அங்கே கிடைக்காது

ஊன் - புலால், (பிற உயிர்களை கொன்று பெறும் இறைச்சி)

தின்பவர்க்கு - உண்பவர்களுக்கு

ஒருவர் தம்முடைய செல்வத்தை காக்காதவராயிருப்பின், அவர் செல்வத்தால் அவருக்குப் பயன் ஏதுமில்லை! அதேபோல், புலாலை உண்பவர்களுக்கும் அருளின் பயனை அடையமாட்டார். அருளின்  பயன் என்ன என்றால் இம்மையில் நல்வாழ்வும், இவ்வுலக வாழ்வு முடிந்தபின் சுவர்கத்தில் வாழ்வும், பின்வரும் பிறவிகளில் நற்குடிப்பிறப்பும்தான்.

பரிமேலழகர் தன் உரையில், சிலர் தான் கொல்லாது ஊன் உண்ணுதலை இழக்கில்லை என்பர் என்றும், ஆனால் அவ்வறு இல்லை என்பதை இக்குறள் உறுதி செய்வதாகக்கூறுவது முற்றிலும் சரியே.. கொல்பவர்க்கு என்னாமல், தின்பவர்க்கு என்றதால், ஐயத்துக்கு இடமில்லை.
