உறாஅ தவர்போல் சொலினும் செறாஅர்சொல்

ஒல்லை உணரப் படும்.

                        (குறள் 1096: குறிப்பறிதல் அதிகாரம்)

உறாஅதவர்போல் - அயலார் அல்லது வேண்டாதவர்போல் (தன் காதலனை) எண்ணி

சொலினும் - அவரைப் பார்த்து சுடு சொல் சொன்னாலும்

செறாஅர் சொல் - அவை பகைவரல்லாதவர்தம் சொற்களே என்பது

ஒல்லை - விரைவாக

உணரப்படும் - உணர்ந்தறியப் படும்

காதற்பெண் ஒன்றைச் சொல்லும்போது நமக்கு வேண்டாதவர் அல்லது அயலார் பேசுவது போன்ற சுடு சொல்லாகத் தோன்றினாலும், உண்மையில் அவர்கள் பேசுவது பகைவரல்லாதவர் தம் பேச்சு போன்றதே என்பது விரைவிலேயே அறியப்படும். அவர்கள் உதடு ஒன்று பேசும், ஆனால் உள்ளமே வேறு ஒன்றைச் சொல்லத் துடிக்கும், அன்பில் உருகும், தன் காதலனுடன் சேருவதற்காக மருகும்.

காதலைப் பொருத்தவரை, “உள்ளொன்று வைத்து புறமொன்று பேசுவார் உறவு கலவாமை அல்ல கலத்தல்” வேண்டும் போலுள்ளது.

Transliteration:

uRAa davarpOl solinum seRAarsol

ollai uNarap paDum

uRAadavarpOl – Like a stranger

solinum – if the lips speak

seRAarsol – that theu are not the words of enemies

ollai - soon

uNarap paDum – will be realized

When a mans lady-love says something, may appear as words from the mouth of a stranger; but the truth that what the say is not from the enemies, will soon be realized. Her lips would speak something, but her would desire utter something else that is amorous and pining for union with her love.

May be as far as love is concerned, it is advocated to pursue a relationship with the lover, who may speak something like a stranger, but be completely mean different something very amoruous.

“Though her words sound like that of a stranger, hot and unkind

 soon would be known and realized they are not from enemy kind”
