குறளின் குரல் - 1101

குறிக்கொண்டு நோக்காமை அல்லால் ஒருகண்

சிறக்கணித்தாள் போல நகும்

                        (குறள் 1095: குறிப்பறிதல் அதிகாரம்)

குறிக்கொண்டு - என்னை நேராக குறித்து

நோக்காமை - பாராததோடு

அல்லால் - அல்லாமல்

ஒருகண் - தன்னுடைய ஒரு கண்ணைச்

சிறக்கணித்தாள் போல - சுருக்கிக்கொண்டு என்னைப் கடைக்கண்ணால் பார்ப்பதுபோல் பார்த்து

நகும் - புன்முறுவலித்து மகிழ்வாள்

மீண்டும் பெண்ணின் கடைக்கண் பார்வைக் குறும்பைப்  பற்றிய குறள். ஆண்மகன், பெண்ணைப் பார்க்கும் போது, அவள் அவனைக் குறித்து நேராகப் பாராது, தன்னுடைய ஒருகண்ணைச் சுருக்கிக்கொண்டு, இடுங்கிய கண்ணால், ஓரவிழிப்பார்வையால் அவனைக் கண்டு மகிழ்வாளாம். பெண்ணின் நாணத்தைப் பலவிதமாக கண்டு அனுபவித்தாற் போன்று வள்ளுவன் எழுதிய மற்றுமொரு குறள்.

Transliteration:

kuRikkonDu nOkkAmai allAl orukaN

siRakkaNittAL pOla nagum

kuRikkonDu – Not directly

nOkkAmai – looking at me

allAl – other than that,

orukaN – with her one eye

siRakkaNittAL pOla – shrink as if closing

nagum  - she would smile with happiness.

Yet again, another verse about the mischievous glance of a lady in love through the corner of her eye. When her man looks at her love, she would avoid looking at him directly, but through a corner of her one eye that too shrinking it as if almost closing it.

“Not only that she doesn’t look at her love directly,

 but with her one eye, shrunk, sees him reticently”
