103: (Ways to upkeep the family - குடி செயல்வகை)

[The chapter is about upkeeping and even uplifting the family in stature or at least preserve and prevail. Since sense of shame is one of the important and fundamental aspects of how to keep the stature high and glorious, this has been kept after the chapter of “sensitivity to shame” ]

கருமம் செயவொருவன் கைதூவேன் என்னும்

பெருமையிற் பீடுடைய தில்.

                    (குறள் 1021: குடி செயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)

கருமம் செய ஒருவன் - எடுத்துக்கொண்ட செயலை செய்யும்போது

கை தூவேன் - நடுவில் ஓய்வு கொள்ளேன் (வேலை முடியும் வரை)

என்னும் பெருமையிற் - என்று ஒருவர் கொள்ளும் குடிப்பெருமையினும்

பீடுடையது இல் - வலிமையுடையதும், மேலான பெருமை எதுவும் இல்லை.

ஒருவர் தாம் எடுத்துக்கொண்ட செயல்களில் சலிப்பில்லாமலும் ஓய்வு எடுத்துக்கொண்டு தொய்வு செய்யாமலும் இருக்கும் பெருமையிலும் மேலான பெருமை வேறு ஏதும் இல்லை. இதுவே ஒருவன் தாம் பிறந்த குடியின் பெருமையை நிலை நிறுத்தும் செயலுமாகும்.

Transliteration:

Karumam seyavoruvan kaithUvEn ennum

perumaiyiR pIDudaiya thil

Karumam seya oruvan – In doing what is undertaken

Kai thUvEn – having the resolve not to rest until completion

Ennum perumaiyiR – more than the glory that comes out of such resolve

pIDudaiya thil – greater glory is nil

There is no greater glory than having the resolve not to cease the effort or rest until complete, the undertaken, says this verse. Such resolve is the one which upkeeps the glory of the family too.

“No glory is greater than the resolve not to cease or rest

 Until the undertaken is complete to keep family the best”
