வகைமாண்ட வாழ்க்கையும் வான்பொருளும் என்னாம்

தகைமாண்ட தக்கார் செறின்.

                        (குறள் 897: பெரியாரைப் பிழையாமை அதிகாரம்)

வகைமாண்ட - முறையான உறுப்புகளைக் கொண்ட பெருமை பெற்ற

வாழ்க்கையும் - வாழ்க்கையும்

வான்பொருளும் - ஈட்டி வைத்த பெரும் பொருளும்

என்னாம் - என்ன பயனுடைத்தாம்?

தகைமாண்ட - நல்லொழுக்கமே தமது பெருமையாகக் கொண்ட

தக்கார் - தகைமையுடையோர் ஒருவரை (இங்கு ஆள்வோரை என்னல் என்பது பொருந்தும்)

செறின் - வெகுள்வாராயின்.

ஆள்வோர்க்கு எல்லாவித நல்ல உறுப்புகளும் (நாடு, அமைச்சு, அரண், படையென்ற நான்கும் என்பார் பரிமேலழகர்), பெரும் செல்வமும் இருந்து அவற்றால் என்ன பயன்? நல்லொழுக்கத்தையே தம் பேறாகப், பெருமையாகக் கொண்ட தகவுடையோர், அவரை சினந்து வெகுளத்தக்கவராக இருப்பாராயின்? அவர் அழிவுப்பாதையிலேயே இருக்கிறார் என்பதை உணர்த்துவதாம் அது.

Transliteration:

vagaimANDA vAzhkkaiyum vAnporuLum ennAm

tagaimANDa takkAr seRin

vagaimANDA – Having all proper aspects of a rule (state, ministry, protection, a good army, says parimelazhagar)

vAzhkkaiyum – such a life

vAnporuLum – and the wealth amassed through effort and industry

ennAm – what use are they?

tagaimANDa – people of virtuousity

takkAr – and glorious greatness

seRin – if angered.

Though a ruler may be blessed with all the aspects fulfilled such as state, good ministry, protection and a capable army and immense wealth, what use are they for him? Blessed with good virtues, and having that as their sole glory, if the great are upset and angered by their conduct? It imples only the impending destruction for that ruler..

“What use is it to be blessed with all that required for a state

 if the ruler invites the wrath of a virtuous and glorious great ?”
