காணாதான் காட்டுவான் தான்காணான் காணாதான்

கண்டானாம் தான்கண்ட வாறு.

                        (குறள் 849: புல்லறிவாண்மை அதிகாரம்)

காணாதான் - அறிவிலிக்கு, பேதைக்குப்

காட்டுவான் - ஈதறிவு என்று காட்டி போதிப்பவன் (தம்மை எல்லாமும் அறிந்தவன் என்று நினைப்பதால்)

தான்காணான் - தானே அறிவிலியென்றாவன், அதாவது பேதையாவான்

காணாதான் - அவ்வறிவிலியோ

கண்டானாம் - தான் எவ்வாறு காணுகிறானோ, அதையே அறிவென்று

தான் கண்டவாறு - நினைத்து பாசாங்கிலோ, அறிவு மயக்கத்தின் போதையிலோ இருப்பான்

புல்லறிவாளராம் அறிவிலிகளுக்கு நல்லறிவை ஊட்டுதல் ஒருவழியிலும் இயலாது என்பதைச் சொல்லும் குறள். இதைப் “பேதைக்கு உரைத்தாலும் செல்லாதுணர்வு” என்கிறது சிறுபஞ்சமூலப் பாடல் ஒன்றும். இன்னும் தெளிவாக, பழமொழிப்பாடலொன்று இக்குறளைக் கருத்தையொட்டி இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறது.

மூர்க்கர்க்கு யாதும் மொழியற்க - மூர்க்கன்றான்


கொண்டதே கொண்டு விடானாகும் ஆகாதே


உண்டது நீலம் பிறிது.

அறிவிலார்க்கு, இவையே நல்ல வழிமுறைகள் என்று காட்டுபவன், தாமே அறியாமையில் மூழ்கியவனாகிறான். அறிவில்லாதவனோ, தான் கற்றுக் கொண்டுவிட்டதாக எண்ணி பாசாங்கிலோ, அறிவு மயக்க போதையிலோ, தாம் செய்பவற்றையே செய்துகொண்டிருப்பான். கொடுத்தாலும் கொள்ளார்க்குக் கொடுத்து, அவர் கொள்ளாதிருக்கும் போது கொடுத்தவனும் முட்டாளேயாகிறான். “பாத்திரம் அறிந்து பிச்சையிடு” என்று சொல்லுவதும் இதைத்தான். 

Transliteration:

kANAdAn kATTuvAn thAnkANAn kANAdAn

kaNDAnAm thANkaNDa vARu

kANAdAn – for ignoral fools

kATTuvAn – the person showing what is right an dproper.

thAnkANAn – becomes a fool himself (trying to show unwilling recipient is foolishness)

kANAdAn – At the same time, the ignorant fool (who is advised)

kaNDAnAm – blindly goes by what and how he sees, understands, thinking that to be wise,

thANkaN DavARu – be in pretense of all knowing or in dizziness of his own ignorance.

It is an act in vain to guide fools, by trying anything. A poem form “siRupancha mUlam” says, “even if dinned into fools, good will not be absorbed or considered by them”.  A poem from pazhamozhi nAnURup works, says it much more clear, not to advise anything good to stubborn fools as they would stick to what they believe in and do what they please, defiantly.

A person thinking that he can advise a stubborn ignorant fool, himself becomes an ignorant fool. At the sametime, an ignorant, believes that he know what he does and continues to act in pretense of all knowing, and dizziness of ignorance. One that attempts to mend the unworthy or unwilling recipient is a fool himself, is what is said in this verse.

“That who guides an ignorant is himself, an ignorant.

 Ignorant fool decidedly treads his foolish path aberrant”
