கெடாஅ வழிவந்த கேண்மையார் கேண்மை

விடாஅர் விழையும் உலகு.

                        (குறள் 809: பழைமை அதிகாரம்)

கெடாஅ - உரிமை கெடாமல்

வழிவந்த - பழமையாக தொடரும்

கேண்மையார் - நண்பரது

கேண்மை விடாஅர் - நட்பை விடாது இருப்பவரை (எக்காரணம்பற்றியும், அவர் பிழைசெய்தாலும், அதை பொருட்படுத்தாது)

விழையும் - விரும்பும் (அவரது நட்பு நிலையின் வலிமைக்காக)

உலகு - இவ்வுலகானது.

ஒருவர்க்கொருவர் உரிமை அறாது, பழைமையாகத் தொடரும் நண்பரது நட்பை, எக்காரணத்துக்காவும் (அவர் பிழை செய்தாலும் பொருட்படுத்தாது) புறக்கணிக்காது தொடருபவர் நட்பு நிலையை இவ்வுலகே விரும்பும். மீண்டும் பழைமையாகத் தொடரும் நட்புறவின் சிறப்பை வலியுறுத்தி, அத்தகைய நட்பை உலகோரும் விரும்பிப் பாராட்டுவர் என்கிறார் வள்ளுவர்.

இதில் பிழைசெய்தாலும் என்பது முற்றிலும் பரிமேலழகரால் தருவிக்கப்பட்ட பொருள்தான்.  சுருக்கமாகச் சொன்னால் பழைமையான நட்பைப் போற்றுபவரின் நட்பு நிலைமையை இவ்வுலகம் பாராட்டும் என்பதே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து. “கேண்மை விடாஅர்”, என்பது, எக்காரணம்பற்றியும் என்பதை உள்ளுரையாகச் சொல்லுகிறது.

Transliteration:

keDAa vazhivanda kENmaiyAr kENmai

viDAar vizhaiyum ulagu

keDAa – without losing the mutual liberty accorded

vazhivanda – long sustaining

kENmaiyAr – friend’s

kENmai viDAar – not forsaking the friendship, for whatever reason (even if they err in their deeds)

vizhaiyum – will like (appreciating the strength of that long standing friendship)

ulagu – this world.

Without losing the liberty accorded mutually the friendship that continues for a long time, regardless of the faults in any one of them, the world will appreciate that friendship. Once again a verse glorifying the longterm friendship that continues despite any reason for misunderstanding.

In this verse, the idea of “regardless of faults” is entirely construed by Parimelazhagar.The central theme of this, gloryfing the longterm friendships and how world appreciates such friendships.

“World desires and commends long standing

 Friendship of faithful friends never forsaking”
