ஐயப் படாஅது அகத்தது உணர்வானைத்

தெய்வத்தோ டொப்பக் கொளல்.

                        (குறள் 702: குறிப்பறிதல்அதிகாரம்)

ஐயப்படா(அ)து - சந்தேகத்துக்கு இடமின்றி

அகத்தது - மற்றவர் உள்ளத்தில் பொதிந்திருப்பவற்றை

உணர்வானைத் - அறிந்து உணர்ந்து கொள்வானை

தெய்வத்தோ(டு) - இறைவனோடு

ஒப்பக்கொளல் - ஒப்பாகக் கொள்ளவேண்டும்.

இந்த குறளின் கருத்து எளிமையானது. மற்றோர் உள்ளத்தில் உள்ளதை சந்தேகத்துக்கு இடமின்றி உணர்ந்து கொள்வானை, இறைபொருளுக்கு இணையாக வைத்து மதிக்கவேண்டும் என்கிறது இக்குறள். உளவியல் அறிந்த எவருமே ஓரளவுக்கு மற்றோர் மனத்துளதை யூகித்து உணரமுடியும்.  குறிப்பறிதல் என்பது ஒரு திறனேயன்றி அது பண்பு அல்ல என்பதால், அத்திறன் உள்ளவர்களை இறைபொருளோடு ஒப்புவதா என்கிற ஐயம் எழவே செய்கிறது. திறமை உள்ளவர்கள் எல்லோரும் பண்பாளர்களாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்றில்லையே. அத்திறனும், உயரிய பண்பும் இருந்தால் அவர்களை இறையென மதிக்கலாம்.

Transliteration:

Aiyap padAadhu akaththadhu uNarvAnaith

dheivaththO Doppak koLal

Aiyap padA(a)dhu – beyond doubt

akaththadhu – what others have in their mind

uNarvAnaith – one who understands that

dheivaththO(Du) – to a Godhead

oppakkoLal – is comparable

One who understands beyond doubt, what is in the mind of another, is placed among Gods – says this verse. Anyone who is reasonably proficient in phsycology, can easily figure out what is in somebody’s mind. It is a matter of training in most cases. Also, it is an ability which is obtained by training, not an ethical value or virtue that one must possess. While we value the talent and respect it, It is also questionable as to why such skilled people are comparable to Godhead! Talent and Virtue are two separate aspects and not all those talented people are virtuous.
