வினைபகை என்றிரண்டின் எச்சம் நினையுங்கால்

தீயெச்சம் போலத் தெறும்.

வினை பகை - தொடங்கிய வினையும், அழிக்கத் தொடங்கிய பகையும் ஆகிய

என்றிரண்டின் எச்சம் - இரண்டையும் முடிக்காமல் மிச்சம் வைப்பதை

நினையுங்கால் - ஆராய்ந்தோமாயின்

தீயெச்சம் போலத் - தீயை முழுவதும் அணைக்காமல் விட்டதுபோல

தெறும் - மீண்டும் வளர்ந்து அது கெடுதலையே, அழிவையே தரும்.

தொடங்கிய செயலானாலும், பகையானாலும் அதை முடித்துவிட வேண்டும் முற்றிலுமாக. மிச்சம் வைத்தோமானால், அவை மீண்டும் வளர்ந்து அழிவுக்கே வழிகோலும். இக்குறள் முதிர்ந்த அனுபவத்தின் வெளிப்பாடு. பகைக்கு இது உண்மையே ஆனாலும், செயலுக்குமா என்ற கேள்வி எழுவது இயற்கை.

ஆனால் இன்றைய திட்டமிடப்பட்ட வினை நிர்வாகக் கோட்பாடுகளில், தொடங்கிய வினை உரிய நேரத்தில் முடியவில்லையானால், அதற்காக திட்டமிடப்பட்ட செலவும் கூடும். மாறுபட்ட வழிகளில் வேலையை முடிக்க ஆராயப்படும். வேலை நீட்டிக்கப்பட்டு வளரவே செய்யும். முடியாத வேலை அதைச் செய்தவர்களுக்கு மதிப்பையும், வேலையையும் கூட இழக்கச் செய்யும்.

Transliteration:

Vinaipagai enRiraNDin eccham ninaiyungAL

thIyechcham pOlath theRum

Vinai pagai – the work that began and the destruction of enemies that commenced

enRiraNDin eccham – the unfinished portion of both

ninaiyungAL – if thought about keenly

thIyechcham pOlath – like the remains of the incompletely extinquished fire

theRum – will bring destruction only.

Whether the work or the destruction of the enemies that commenced, should never be left unfinished. If done so, they will only yield destruction growing in maginitude again like the incompletely extinquished fire that will grow and cause only destruction.

This verse is an expression of deep experience. Though it is definitely and obviously true for quelling enemies, how would it be so for unfinished work? In Project management principles of today, it is a well known fact that if a work is not finished in time or left partially done, will only bring destruction either in terms of escalating costs or even cost employment for the workers.
