பொருள்கருவி காலம் வினையிடனொடு ஐந்தும்

இருள்தீர எண்ணிச் செயல்.

                        (குறள் 675: வினைசெயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)

பொருள் - வினையாற்றலுக்கு தேவையான பொருள்

கருவி - செய்யும் கருவி

காலம் - செய்யத்தக்க நேரம்

வினை - செய்யும் செயல்

இடனொடு - செய்யும் இடம்

ஐந்தும் - ஆகிய ஐந்தையும்

இருள்தீர - மயக்கம் நீங்கும்படியாக

எண்ணிச் - ஆராய்ந்து

செயல் - செய்க.

செய்யும் வினை, அதைச் செய்வதற்கு ஏற்ற கருவிகள், செய்வதற்குரிய நேரம், செய்வதற்குத் தேவையான பொருள், செய்யத்தக்க இடம் ஆகிய ஐந்தினையும் நன்கு அறிந்து உணர்ந்து, இதில் எதுகாரணம் பற்றியும் குழம்பாது, மயங்காது, சிந்தித்துச் செயலாற்ற வேண்டும்.

இக்கருத்தோடு இயைந்து கம்பரும் தனது கம்பராமாயண மந்திரப்படலப் பாடலில், “காலமும் இடனும், ஏற்ற கருவியும் தெரியக் கற்ற நூலுற நோக்கித் தெய்வம் நுனித்தறம் குணித்த மேலோர்” என்பார். எளிய குறள், வலிய பொருள்.

Transliteration:

poruLkaruvi kAlam vinaiyiDanoDu aindhum

iruLthIra eNNich cheyal

poruL – The money that is needed to do some task

karuvi – the tools that are required

kAlam – the appropriate time to do

vinaiy – the task to be done

iDanoDu – the place where the task is done

aindhum – these five

iruLthIra – devoid of any doubts and vacillations

eNNich – think through

cheyal – and do things.

A person (especially ministers) must keep in his mind, the following five aspects before doing a task; they are: the nature of task undertaken, the tools that are required to do, the appropriate time to do, the amount of money needed to the same, and the appropriate place to do it.  Once decided on these five, the execution must be without confusion or vascillation.
