குறளின் குரல் - 494

பொள்ளென ஆங்கே புறம்வேரார் காலம்பார்த்து

உள்வேர்ப்பர் ஒள்ளி யவர்.

                          (குறள் 487: காலமறிதல் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

poLLena AngE puRamvErAr kAlampArththu

uLvErppar oLLi yavar

poLLena – (perspiring) like boils/blisters

AngE - there

puRamvErAr – externally wont perspire (because of anger)

kAlampArththu – but until the the right, ripe time

uLvErppar – keep the anger locked up inside of hearts

oLLiyavar – intelligent rulers.

This verse again uses a different metaphor to point out how the intelligent rulers will handle their anger against their enemies. They will not perspire with sweatlets (sweat droplets) appearing like blisters on the body, with anger towards their enemies; but will keep the anger in tact inside of them to wait till the right time for them to show the anger and win over their enemies. vaLLuvar beautifully points how the anger can make someone boil inside and sweat with sweatlets on the body showing up like boils - a good observation of the external manifestation of extreme anger.

He also points out the right tact to be employed by the rulers in dealing with their enemies. Anger exhibited at the wrong time could backfire to a ruler’s own ruin. Through this verse vaLLuvar suggests to rulers the importance waiting for the right time of showing anger.

“Intelligent rulers will not perspire in anger with sweat droplest like blisters;

 They keep the anger inside to wait for ripe time to fight the enemy sinisters”

தமிழிலே:

பொள்ளென - அம்மை கொண்ட உடம்புபோல கொப்புளங்களாக (வியர்வைத் துளிகளால்)

ஆங்கே - அவ்விடத்தில்

புறம்வேரார் - புறத்தே (தெரிவதாகிய) உடம்பு வியர்த்துப் போகார் (சினத்தினால்)

காலம்பார்த்து - ஆனால் உற்ற காலம் வரும் வரை

உள்வேர்ப்பர் - பகைவர் மேலிருக்கும் சினத்தீயை உள்ளேயே பூட்டி வளர்த்திருப்பர்

ஒள்ளியவர் - அறிவாற்றல் மிக்க ஆளுவோர்.

இக்குறள் மற்றொரு உவமையைச் சொல்லி, அறிவுள்ள ஆள்வோர்கள் எப்படி தங்களுடைய பகைவர்கள் மேலுள்ள கோவத்தினை கையாளுவர் என்று கூறுகிறார் வள்ளுவர். அறிவாண்மை மிக்க ஆள்வோர், பகைவரிடம் கொண்ட கோவத்தினால், கொப்புளங்களைப் போல் முத்துமுத்தாக உடம்பிலே சினந்து வேர்க்கார்; ஆனால் கோவக்கனலை உள்ளத்திலே கனற்றிருக்கச் வைத்து தக்க நேரத்தில் அதை வெளிக்கொணரச் செய்து பகையை வெல்லுவார் என்கிறார்.

வள்ளுவரின் உடலியல் கூறுகளுக்கான அறிவும், உணர்ச்சிகளின் போது, உடம்பில் அவை வெளிப்படும் விதமும் இக்குறளினால் அறியப்படுகின்றன. இக்குறள் வழியாக, ஆள்வோர்கள் பகைவர்களுக்கு எதிராகக் கையாளவேண்டிய ஒரு கடைபிடிக்க அரிதான யுக்தியினைக் கூறுகிறார் வள்ளுவர். தவறான நேரத்தில் வெளிப்படுத்தப்படும் கோவம், தன்மீதே பாயும்.

பொதுவாக இருக்கும் சொலவடையான  “பதறாத காரியம் சிதறாது” என்பதன் மற்றொரு வெளிப்பாடே இதுவும்.
