குறளின் குரல் - 495

செறுநரைக் காணின் சுமக்க இறுவரை

காணின் கிழக்காம் தலை.

                          (குறள் 488: காலமறிதல் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

seRunaraik kANin sumakka iRuvarai

kANin kizhakkAm thalai

seRunaraik kANin – If forced to meet the enemies

sumakka – be patiently respectful

iRuvarai kANin – If that is continued till their end comes (on their own weight)

kizhakkAm thalai – their head falls on their own doings.

Once again a confusing verse. It is better to be submissive for everyone is an advice given by vaLLuvar in a different verse. There is no question on that as it is a good advice. In fact, if we need to put up an act of being submissive and falsely respectful to the adversaries, even that is also not wrong. But to wait until their head falls on their own is to advise “inaction” to people.

This is what is said by this verse.  When once sees the enemy, should be respectful, until their time of destruction comes. When the time comes, they will fall on their own weight.

Being submissive to enemies when seen, will make them careless is not an invalid thought. But to let them go weak on their own or destroy because of their own bloatedness means there is no value for patience and is also powerless of a person.

“Be submissive to enemies until the time is ripe

 for them to lose their head on their own hype”

தமிழிலே:

செறுநரைக் காணின் - பகைவரைப் பார்க்கும் போது

சுமக்க - பொறுமையோடு பணிக

இறுவரை காணின் - அவர்களுக்கு இறுதி வரும் நேரம்வரை அவ்வாறு இருந்தால்

கிழக்காம் தலை - அவர்கள் தம்மைக்காத்துக்கொள்ளாது, தலை மிகைத்து, கீழ்வீழ்ந்து, தாமே அழிந்து கெடுவர்

மீண்டும் ஒரு குழப்பும் குறள். எல்லோர்க்கும் நன்றாம் பணிதல் என்பதில் இரு வேறு கருத்துக்கள் இருக்கமுடியாது. பகைக்குப் பணிந்து செல்வதுபோல் நடித்தலும் தவறில்லை. ஆனால் அவராக அவருடைய தலைக்கனத்தால் தம்தலை தாழ்ந்து அழியும் வரை காத்திருத்தல், ஒருவருக்குச் செயலின்மையை அறிவுறுத்துவதாகவே இருக்கிறது.

இக்குறள் கூறும் கருத்து இதுவே: பகைவரைக் காணும் போது பணிக. அவர்களது இறுதிக்காலம் அவர்களது தலைக்கனத்தால், மிகைத்து நேரும் போது, அவர்கள் தலை தானாக கீழ்வீழும்.

பகைக்குப் பணிவதால், அவர் தாமாகவே தம்மைக் காக்காமல், அசட்டையாக இருப்பரென்று எண்ணுதலும் தவறில்லை. அதனாலே அவர் தாமாக தளர்ந்து அழியும் காலம் வரை காத்திருத்தல் காத்திருத்தலுக்கும் மதிப்பில்லை, பகையை எதிர்கொள்ளும் வலிவுமில்லாத நிலையாகவும் இருக்கும்.

இன்றெனது குறள்:

பகைக்கிறுதி நாள்வரைப் பார்க்கப் பணிந்தால்

மிகைத்தது தானே கெடும்
