எதிரதாக் காக்கும் அறிவினார்க் கில்லை


அதிர வருவதோர் நோய்.

                                  (குறள் 429: அறிவுடமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

edhiradhAk kAkkum aRivinArk killai

adhira varuvadhOr nOi

edhiradhAk – Expecting the hardship that will befall

kAkkum – protecting self from them

aRivinArkk(u) illai – for such people of wisdom, there is none

adhira - shocking

varuvadhOr – that comes

nOi - misery

Wisemen can foresee what is about to come in the future and protect themselves from any adverse happenings or impending distress. Hence no misery that shocks them will befall on them; they would take precautionary or preparatory steps to handle such situations. Wisdom is a friend that can save before mishap befalls.  The same verse also implies the opposite without being explicit. Even the little or ordinary mishaps can be shocking and beyond their capacity of handling for unwise.

“Wisdom foresees and protects from impending distress

 Hence, no shocking misery will befall for wise as duress

தமிழிலே:

எதிரதாக் - வரப்போகும் துன்பங்களை எதிர்பார்த்து (எதிர் அதா - வருங்காலத்தில் அங்கே)

காக்கும் - அவற்றிலிருந்து தம்மைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும்

அறிவினார்க்கு இல்லை
 - அறிவுடையோர்களுக்கு இல்லை

அதிர - நடுங்கும் படியாக

வருவதோர் - வரக்கூடிய

நோய் - துன்பங்கள் ஒன்றும்

அறிவுடையோர் பின்னால் வரக்கூடிய துன்ப நிகழ்வுகளை முன்பாகவே எதிர்பார்த்து, அவற்றிலிருந்து தம்மைக் காத்துகொள்ளும் திறனுடையர். அதனால் அவர்களுக்கு நடுங்கும்படியாக வரக்கூடிய துன்பங்கள் ஒன்றுமில்லை.. அறிவுடைமை வருமுன் காக்கும் தோழன் போன்றதாம். இதனால் எதிர்மறைப் பொருளும், அதாவது அறிவுடைமை அற்றவர்களுக்கு அத்திறமை இல்லை என்பதும், அவர்களுக்கு சிறுதுன்பங்களும் கூட நடுக்குறுபவையாக அமையும் என்பதும் பெறப்படுகிறது.

இன்றெனது குறள்:

வருமுன் அறிந்துகாத்துக் கொள்ளறிஞர் துன்பம்

ஒருநாளும் கொள்வதில் லை
