உலகம் தழீஇய தொட்பம் மலர்தலும்


கூம்பலும் இல்ல தறிவு.

                                  (குறள் 425: அறிவுடமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

Ulagam thazhIiya thoTpam malardhalum

kUmbalum illa dhaRivu

Ulagam – world of great people

thazhIiyadhu – to make friendship (with such greta people)

oTpam – is skill obtained wisdom

malardhalum – blossoming

kUmbalum – or closing

illadh(u) – it does not have (based on time of the day), but a stable one

aRivu – is wisdom

Auvayyar says in her mUdhurai, “It is good to see good people, it is good to listen to the worthy words of good people. It is good to speak about their good attributes. Above all, it is good to be with them always”. The recommendation of that old poetes is the central theme of this verse too. To make friends with great people is the sign of wisdom. Such friendships stay without blossoming or shrinking based on time. They stay permanent. Such is the nature of wisdom too.

“Wisdom is to befriend the great; neither

Blossom with time nor shrink and wither”

தமிழிலே:

உலகம் - உலகிலே உயர்ந்தோரை

தழீஇயது - நட்பாக்கிக் கொள்வதே

ஒட்பம் - அறிவுடமையாம்

மலர்தலும்
 - அது பூப்பதும்

கூம்பலும் - வாடுதலும் (நேரத்துக்கு ஏற்றார்போல்)

இல்லது - இல்லாதது, நிலைத்திருப்பது

அறிவு - அத்தகையத் தன்மையானதே அறிவுடமை

“நல்லோரைக் காண்பதுவும் நன்றே: நலம் மிக்க நல்லார் சொல் கேட்பதுவும் நன்றே: நல்லார் குணங்கள் உரைப்பதுவும் நன்றே: அவரோடு இணங்கி இருப்பதுவும் நன்று”-ஔவையின் மூதுரைப் பாடல். உயர்ந்தோரே உலகோர் எனப்படுவர்; உயர்ந்தோர்தம் உறவே ஒருவரை உயர்வில் சேர்ப்பதாகும். அதுவே அறிவுடையோர்தம் செய்கையுமாம். அத்தகைய நட்பமானது நேரத்திற்கு ஏற்றார்போல் மலர்வதும், வாடுவதுமில்லாத அறிவைப் போன்றதாம்

இன்றெனது குறள்:

உயர்ந்தோர்தம் நட்பாம் அறிவு உயர்வும்

அயர்வுமற்று நின்றுநிலைக் கும்
