அருள்கருதி அன்புடைய ராதல் பொருள்கருதிப்

பொச்சாப்புப் பார்ப்பார்கண் இல்.

                               (குறள் 285:  கள்ளாமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

aruLkarudhi anbuDaiya rAdhal poruLkarudhi

pochchAppup pArppArkaN il

aruLkarudhi – Understanding the greatness of compassion

anbuDaiyar Adhal – To be loving to others

poruLkarudhi – to steal others belongings with cunning

pochchAppup – they are tired or distracted or forgetful

pArppArkaN il – Looking for the time such as above, is not there

In this verse, vaLLuvar says, who will not have the desire to steal from others by cunning. One who knows the greatness of grace, will have compassion and love for others; and they will not steal from them, that too when they are unattentive or tired.

The word “pochchAppu” used in this verse seems excess. Truly graceful and compassionate people that too ascetics will not steal by cunning! People that thieve routinely are the ones that look for opportune moments. But for the metrical considerations, there is no real purpose for the word.

“Knowing the greatness of grace, the compassionate souls, saints

 Will not steal by cunning from others during their weaker moments.

தமிழிலே:

அருள்கருதி  - அருளின் உயர்ச்சியை அறிந்து

அன்புடையராதல் - மற்றோரிடத்து அன்பு பூண்டு ஒழுகுபவர்க்கு

பொருள்கருதிப் - பிறர் பொருளை வஞ்சனையால் திருடுவது

பொச்சாப்புப் - அதுவும் அவர் அயர்ந்திருக்கும்

பார்ப்பார்கண் இல் - நேரம் பார்த்து என்பது கிடையாது.

இக்குறளில் யாரிடத்தில் பிறரிடம் இருப்பதை வஞ்சித்துத் திருடிக்கொள்ளும் எண்ணம் இராது என்பதைக் கூறுகிறார் வள்ளுவர். எவரிடத்தில்  அருளின் உயர்வினை அறிந்ததனால், மற்றவரிடத்தில் அன்பு இருக்குமோ, அவர்கள் மற்றோர் அயர்ந்த நேரம்பார்த்து, அல்லது தளர்ந்த நேரம் பார்த்து அவர்களிடன் திருடமாட்டார்கள்.

பொச்சாப்பு என்ற சொல் ஒரு மிகுதிச் சொல்லாகவே இருக்கிறது. உண்மையிலேயே அருளும், அன்பும் உடையவர்கள், அதுவும் துறவு நிலையில் இருப்பவர்கள் திருடுவதோ, அதுவும் வஞ்சித்துத் திருடுவதோ கிடையாது. அதுவும் மற்றோர் தளர்ந்த நிலையில் என்பது சற்றும் பொருந்தாததாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது

அயரும் தருணம் பொருளைத் திருடும்
