குறளின் குரல் - 291

உள்ளத்தால் உள்ளலும் தீதே பிறன்பொருளைக்

கள்ளத்தால் கள்வேம் எனல்.

                               (குறள் 282:  கள்ளாமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

uLLaththAl uLLalum thIdhE piRanporuLaik

kaLLaththAl kaLvEm enal

uLLaththAl – Even in the heart

uLLalum – to think is

thIdhE – sinful

piRanporuLaik - things that belong to others

kaLLaththAl – by fraudulent or connivingly

kaLvEm enal – to usurp.

To steal somebody’s belonging is definitely a sin for everybody. For asctics even to entertain a thought in the heart to steal what belongs to someone else is a great sin. Purity in heart is greatly emphasized for ascetics

Earlier, we had seen a chapter full of verses (veghAmai) on not desiring for other’s belongings. Even for family people that have other compulsions, it is better not to desire for what belongs to others.  For people of ascetic path, it is even a worse sin.

“It is sinful to even entertain a thought to steal

 Others belongings that too by conniving zeal”

தமிழிலே:

உள்ளத்தால் - தன்னுடைய நெஞ்சத்தில்

உள்ளலும் - நினைந்தலும்

தீதே - தீமையும் பாவமும் ஆனதே

பிறன்பொருளைக் - மற்றவருக்கு உடமையாகிய பொருளை

கள்ளத்தால் - வஞ்சனயாலே

கள்வேம் எனல் - திருடிக்கொள்வோம் என்று நினைத்தல்

பிறருக்கு உரியதாகிய பொருளை வஞ்சனையால் தமதாக்கிக் கொள்ள தன்னெஞ்சு நினைத்தலே தீமையும் பாவமுமாம்.  இது பொதுவாக எல்லோருக்கும் பொருந்துவது எனினும், துறவறத்தில் இருப்பவர்களுக்கு குறிப்பாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டது. அவர்கள் களவு முதலியவற்றை விலக்கியவர்களாக இருப்பினும், மனத்திலும் தூய்மையாகவும், வஞ்சக எண்ணங்கள் இல்லாமலும் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

வெஃகாமை அல்லது விழையாமை அல்லது வேண்டாமை என்பதைப்பற்றி இல்லறவியலில் கூறும்போது பிறர் பொருளுக்கு விழையாமை நன்று என்பார். இல்லறத்தில் இருப்பவர்களுக்கே விழைவதே தவறு, துறவறத்தில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு, அது பெரும்பாவம். அவ்விழைதல் களவாடும் எண்ணத்தைச் சேர்க்கும், பிறகு களவிலேயே ஈடுபடுத்தி பெரும் பாவத்தில் சேர்க்கும் என்பதால் “உள்ளத்தால் உள்ளலும்” என்றார்

இன்றைய குறள்:

பிறனுடமை வஞ்சித்துக் கொள்ளுதற்கு நெஞ்சம்

திறம்பித் திரிவதும் தீது

piRanuDamai vanjiththuk koLLudhaRku nenjam

thiRambith thirivadhum thIdhu.

(திரிவதும் என்பதற்கு பதிலாக நினைவதும் என்றும் சொல்லலாம். ஆனால் திரிவது நற்குணம் தீகுணமாக மாறுவதை குறிப்பதால், அதையே கையாண்டிருக்கிறேன்)
