இலர்பல ராகிய காரணம் நோற்பார்

சிலர்பலர் நோலா தவர்.

                   (குறள் 260:  தவம் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

Ilarpala rAgiya kAraNam nORpAr

Silarpalar nOlA davar

Ilar – those that have neither divine grace nor wealth that counts in this world

palarAgiya kAraNam – the reason why they are in multitudes in number

nORpAr Silar – Is because, the people that do penance are only a few.

palar nOlAdavar – most others don’t know penance; even knowing merits, don’t do.

The reason that most people in this world are devoid of providential grace or wealth (all forms of it), is because the people that understand the greatness of penance are a few and only they do it. Most others neither understand its need and greatness nor do it. The word “ilar” means impoverished in the general sense. But here it means people that are devoid of grace and wealth – which is a different kind of poverty. Ignorant and lack of divine grace are denoting the people who are poor.

VaLLuvar registers a general observation here in this last verse of this chapter implying without penance most people of this world have become useless and lack of penitents is the foremost of causes for all disorders on earth.

“Reason that most peope are “have-not’s”, is because there are less

 doing! penance. Most others either not aware or in ingorant trance”

தமிழிலே:

இலர் - உலகத்தே பொருளும் அருளும் இல்லாதவர்கள்

பலராகிய காரணம் - பலராக பெருகியிருக்க காரணம் அல்லது ஏது

நோற்பார் சிலர் - தவசீலர்களாக வாழ்பவர்கள் ஒரு சிலரே

பலர் நோலாதவர் - பெரும்பாலானோர் தவமறியாதோர்; உறும் நன்மையறிந்தும் செய்யாதவர்கள்

உலகில் அருளும் பொருளும் இல்லாதோர் பலராக இருப்பதற்குக் காரணம், தவத்தின் உறுபயனறிந்து செய்வோர் ஒரு சிலரே; மற்றோர் அறியாமல் இருக்கிறார்கள்; தெரிந்தும் செய்யாமல் இருக்கிறார்கள். இலர் என்பதை வறுமை என்பர் என்று கொண்டாலும் பொருளின்மையைக் குறிக்காது, நல்லறிவு அற்ற வறுமையைக் குறிப்பது. செல்வமும் நல்லறிவு மற்றும் அருளும் நிறைந்திருப்பதையே உணர்த்தும்.

இவ்வதிகாரத்தின் இறுதிக்குறளில் ஒரு பொதுவான கவனிப்பைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டி, தவமின்மையினால் உலகில் பலரும் அவமாகி இருக்கிறார்கள் என்றும், தவமின்மையின்மையே உலகின் நிலவும் பலவித குறைபாடுகளும் என்றும் சுட்டிக்காட்டி அறிவுறுத்துகிறார்.

நாலடியார் பாடலொன்றும் இலர் பலராகிய காரணத்தை இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறது: “புறங்கடைப் பற்றி மிகத்தாம் வருந்தியிருப்பரே மேலைத் தவத்தால் தவம் செய்யாதவர்” (நாலடியார்:31)

செல்வர் சிலரே!ஏன்? ஏதுபார்க்கின் நோற்காதோர்

பல்லோர் தவத்தோர் சிலர்
