பரிந்தோம்பிக் காக்க ஒழுக்கம் தெரிந்தோம்பித்

தேரினும் அஃதே துணை.

                    (குறள் 132:  ஒழுக்கமுடைமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

parindhOmbi kAkka ozhukkam therindhOmbith

thErinum ahdhE thuNai

parindh(u) Ombi  - with care and understand  (as something to be closely guarded)

kAkka  - preserve, guard

ozhukkam – righteous conduct

therindhu Ombith – learn and understand completely the virtues

thErinum - Even for those who (learn understand the virtues)

ahdhE thuNai – only the righteous conduct is the protection.

Following the righteous conduct with care and without slipping is a must for everyone. It is all the more important for those who have learned all the virtuous codes of righteous conduct to follow them which will come as a big support for them.

In this verse, vaLLuvar underlines the importance of not just having the bookish knowledge of virtuous way of righteous conduct, practicing of the same is of utmost importance. There are people that are very learned of what virtue is or not. But, little would they practice the righteous ways in their own lives. This has been written for them as stern reminder

 “Practice and preserve the righteous conduct with care

  Even those who are learned of the same must not spare”

தமிழிலே:

பரிந்து ஓம்பிக் – மிக்க அக்கறையுடன், அறிந்துகொண்டு

காக்க – காக்கவேண்டும், பழக்கத்தில் கொண்டுவரவேண்டும்

ஒழுக்கம் - ஒழுக்க நெறிகளை!

தெரிந்து ஓம்பித் - கற்கவேண்டிய நெறிகளைக் கற்று,

தேரினும் - இதன் பயன் இதுவென்று உணர்ந்தவர்க்கும்

அஃதே துணை – ஒழுக்க நெறி நிற்றலே உற்ற துணையாம்

ஒருவர் ஒழுக்க நெறிகளை, மிகவும் அக்கறையுடன், குலையாமல் கடைபிடித்து பாதுகாத்து வாழவேண்டும். மிகவும் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்து, ஒழுக்கநெறிகளை அறிந்து, அவற்றால் வரும் இம்மை மறுமைப் பயன்களைத் தெரிந்து அறிந்தார்க்கும், அவ்வறிவின் பயனைவிட, நடைமுறையில் கடைபிடித்தலே உற்ற துணயாகும்.

குறள் ஒழுக்கநெறி வழுவாமையின் கட்டாயத்தைச் சொல்லி, ஏட்டறிவுமட்டுமில்லாமல், கடைபிடிக்கும் உறுதியும் வேண்டுமென்று வலியுறுத்துவதே இக்குறள். சிலர் அற நெறிகளை நன்றாக அறிந்துகொண்டு பிறருக்கு அறிவுறுத்துவர். ஆனால் தம் வாழ்க்கையில் கடைபிடிக்க மாட்டார்கள்.  அவர்களுக்காக எழுதப்பட்ட குறளிது.
