முகத்தான் அமர்ந்து இனிதுநோக்கி அகத்தானாம்

இன்சொ லினதே அறம்.

                       (குறள் 93:  இனியவை கூறல் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

mugaththAn amarndhu – with a smiling and pleasant face

inidhunOkki – having a sweet gaze

agaththAnAm – coming from the heart, without pretence and facade

insolinadhE – the sweet words that bring

aRam - virtue

Good virtue is, the ability to have a smiling face, pleasing gaze, and sweet words coming from the heart. When we see somebody who is very close to us, our heart jumps in joy, and when we look at them, our look has an automatic sweetness; when we speak to them, our words express compassion and love genuinely and we don’t speak anything to hurt them even remotely.

This vitue should be exercised without any likes and dislikes for specific persons. “yAdhum UrE, yAvarum kELir’  (யாதும் ஊரே, யாவரும் கேளிர்) are golden words to remember,  when we talk to everyone.  In one of the poems the importance of being a person of sweet words has been stressed by saying, that the seas wont raise when there is hot sun, but will, seeing the cool moon to imply how the world responds to hot words versus sweet words. So, be the person of sweet words.

Pleasant face, sweet gaze and sweeter words

From the heart, define the true vitrtue that holds

தமிழிலே:

முகத்தான் அமர்ந்து – முகமானது மலர்ச்சியுடன்

இனிதுநோக்கி – இனிய பார்வையும்

அகத்தானாம் – உள்ளத்திலிருந்து வரும் (பொய்யும் பூச்சுமிலாத)

இன்சொலினதே – இனிமையான சொற்களால் விளைவதே

அறம் – அறம் எனப்படுவதாம்

அறச் செய்கையெனப்படுவது, முகமலர்ச்சியுடன், இனிய பார்வையும், உள்ளத்திலிருந்து வருகின்ற உண்மையான இனிய சொற்களாலும் விளைவதாம். நமக்கு மிகவும் நெருக்கமானவர்களாகக் கருதும் ஒருவரைப்பார்க்கும் போதே நம்முடைய முகம் மலர்கிறது, உள்ளம் உவகையில் துள்ளுகிறது, அவர்களை நாம் பார்க்கும் பார்வையிலும் ஒரு இனிமை சேர்கிறது. இவற்றோடு நாம் அவர்களோடு பேசும்போது உண்மையான அன்போடு வரும் சொற்களாக, அவர்கள் மனது எவ்விதத்திலும் கோணாதவாறுதான் பேசுவோம்.

இக்குறளில், அறம் என்பதை பண்பு என்கிற பொருளிலேதான் கொள்ளப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இப்பண்பை வேண்டியவர் வேண்டாதவர் என்கிற விருப்பு வெறுப்பு இல்லாமல் எல்லோரிடத்திலும் கொள்வோமேயானால் அதுதான் உண்மையான பண்பு.  ‘யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர்’ என்ற வாசகத்தை நினைவில் இருத்துவோமேயானால்,  எல்லோரிடத்தும் அன்பும், ஆதலால் இன் சொல் அன்றி வேறு எதுவும் பேசோம்.  இன்சொல்லின் வலிமை பற்றி கீழ்வரும் பாடல் கூறுவதைப் பார்க்கலாம்.

இன்சொலால் அன்றி இருநீர் வியன்உலகம்

வன்சொலால் என்றும் மகிழாதே-பொன்செய்

அதிர்வளையாய்! பொங்காது அழல்கதிரால் தண்என்

கதிர்வரவால் பொங்கும் கடல்

இனிய சொற்களால் அன்றி இவ்வுலகம் கடுஞ்சொற்களால் என்றும் மகிழாது, எப்படியெனில், கடலானது சுட்டெரிக்கும் கதிரவன் வரவால் பொங்காது, குளிர்ச்சியான முழுமதியைக் காணும்போதுதான் பொங்குவது போல்.  இன்சொல்லே பண்பு.

புன்சிரிப்பு பூத்தமுகம் இன்பார்வை உள்நிறைந்த

இன்சொல் இணைந்த தறம்
