துன்புறூஉம் துவ்வாமை இல்லாகும் யார்மாட்டும்

இன்புறூஉம் இன்சொ லவர்க்கு.

                       (குறள் 94:  இனியவை கூறல் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

thunbuRuum thuvvAmai illAgum yArmATTum

inbuRuum insolavarkku

thunbuRuum – That which causes a lot of sorrow, distress, anguish, suffering

thuvvAmai – disgust, jealous, poverty  (has multiple meanings, all of which fit the context)

illAgum – shall not be there

yArmATTum – when with everyone

inbuRuum –  a lot of delight or happiness yielding

insolavarkku – capable of uttering sweet words

Those who speak happiness giving, delightful sweet words towards everyone will be devoid of pains of disgust, jealousy, and poverty. vaLLuvar’s genius uses the choicest word “thuvvAmai” which has many meanings in tamil, all of which are undesirable, that cause suffering and distress.  In this verse he has demonstrated the beauty of brevity in using the apt word.

When somebody has only sweetwords for everyone, the person won’t have enemies, nor disgust or jealousy. So the person won’t have any sufferings because of them. Since such personality will have many good friends that care, even if the poverty strikes, they get help even without asking -  the ensuing suffering will also not be there.

Since mutual hared or disgus arising out of glory, or wealth of the other person, causes only misery. So, I have used the word “hatred” in my verse today. Only those devoid of disgust will be people of sweet words and hence others won’t have hatred towards them too.

For who has cheery sweet words for everyone to hear

Distressful jealous, disgust, poveryty shall not be there

தமிழிலே:

துன்புறூஉம் – துன்பத்தை மிகுவிக்கும்

துவ்வாமை – வெறுப்பு, பொறாமை, வறுமை

இல்லாகும்  - இல்லாதொழியும்

யார்மாட்டும்  - எவரிடத்திலும்

இன்புறூஉம்  - இன்பத்தை மிகுவிக்கும்

இன்சொலவர்க்கு – இனிய சொற்களை சொல்ல வல்லவர்க்கு.

எல்லோரிடத்திலும் இன்பத்தை மிகுவிக்கும் இனிய சொற்களை சொல்ல வல்லவர்க்கு, துன்பத்தை மிகுவிக்கும் வெறுப்பு, பொறாமை, வறுமை போன்றைவை இல்லாதொழியும். “துவ்வாமை” என்ற சொல் பல பொருள்களைக் கொண்டது, எல்லாமே துன்பத்தை விளைவிக்கக்கூடியன. வள்ளுவரின் சொல்லாடலின் வலிமையை எடுத்துக்காட்டக்கூடிய சொல்லாட்சி.  

எல்லோரிடத்திலும் இன்சொற்களையே பேசுவோருக்கு பகையோ, யார்மேலும் வெறுப்போ, பொறமையோ இல்லையாதலால், அவருக்கு இவற்றால் பெறக்கூடிய துன்பமும் ஒன்றுமில்லை. நண்பர்களே மிகுத்திருப்பராதலால், அவர்களுக்கு வறுமை வந்தபோதும், கேளாமலேயே உதவியும் வரும், வறுமையால் வரும் துன்பமும் ஒன்றுமில்லை.

ஒருவர் மீது ஒருவர்கொள்ளும் வெறுப்பு பொறாமை, புகழ், செல்வம் காரணம் பற்றி வந்து அதனால் துன்பமே விளையுமாதலால், இன்றைய குறளில் “வெறுத்தல்” என்ற சொல்லையே பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளேன். வெறுத்தல் இல்லாதவரே இன்சொலராகவும் இருப்பர், அதனாலேயே பிறரும் அவர்பால் வெறுப்புக் கொள்வதும் கிடையாது

இன்றெனது குறள்:

எல்லோர்க்கும் இன்சொல் வலார்க்கு வெறுத்தலும்

இல்லதனின் துன்பமு மில்

பிரித்துப் படித்துப் பொருள் கொள்ள:

எல்லோர்க்கும் இன்சொல் வலார்க்கு, வெறுத்தலும்

இல், அதனின் துன்பமும் இல்
