பசக்கமன் பட்டாங்கென் மேனி நயப்பித்தார்

நன்னிலையர் ஆவர் எனின்.       

பசக்க மன் - பசலைப் பூக்கட்டும்

பட்டு ஆங்கென் மேனி - பொலிவிழந்து அங்கே என் உடலில் மேலும்

நயப்பித்தார் - என்னிடம் அன்பு செலுத்தின் இன்று நீங்கினவர்

நன்னிலையர் - நல்ல நிலையிலே

ஆவர் எனின் - இருப்பார் என்றால் 

       

என்மேல் அன்பு செலுத்திய அவர் இன்று நீங்கிச் சென்றதன் காரணமாக நல்ல நிலையில் இருப்பார் என்றால், என்னுடல் மேலும் பசலைப் பூக்கட்டும் என்கிறாள் காதற்தலைவி. இதையே சற்று வெறுத்துக் கூறுவதாகக் கொண்டால், “நயப்பித்தார்” என்பதை, ஆசைக் காட்டி இன்று நீங்கி மோசம் செய்தவர் என்று கொண்டால், அத்தகையவரை நம்பியதற்காக எனக்கு தண்டனையாக மேலும் பசலை பூக்கட்டும் என்று அவள் நொந்து கூறுவதாகக் கொள்ளலாம்.

Transliteration:

Pasakkaman paTTAngen mEni nayappittAr

Nannilaiyar Ava renin

Pasakka man – Let my hue grow pale

paTT(u) Angen mEni – over my body, more

nayappittAr – one who loved me dearly and left me

Nannilaiyar – in good stead and state

Avar enin – will be!

My lover that loved me so dearly has left me today; if he is going to be in good stead and state, on that count, let my body go more pale in hue, says the maiden in this verse. If the word “nayappittAr” is interpreted as his deceiving her after showing so much love, the verse could be interpreted to be said in a dejected tone and she actually wants a punishement of growing more pale, for her naivete.

“Let me grow more pale in hue for naivete, as it is my fate,

 if he who loved and now left, is going to be in good state”
