துறைவன் துறந்தமை தூற்றாகொல் முன்கை

இறைஇறவா நின்ற வளை.

                        (குறள் 1157: பிறிவாற்றாமை அதிகாரம்)

துறைவன் - நெய்தல் நிலத் தலைவன்

துறந்தமை - என்னை விட்டு பிரிந்ததை

தூற்றாகொல் - ஊரரியச் உரத்துச் சொல்லாதோ?

முன்கை இறை - என்னுடைய முன்கையின் மணிக்கட்டிலிருந்து

இறவா நின்ற வளை - தங்காது கழலுமோ என்ற அச்சுறுத்துகிற வளையணிகள்?

தலைவனுடைய பிரிவால் தலைவி உடல் மெலிந்ததாம்! “என்னுடைய முன்கை மணிக்கட்டைக் கடந்து, கழன்று கீழே விழுந்திடுமோ என்ற வகையில் அச்சுறுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கும் என் கை வளையானது, நெய்தல் நிலைத் தலைவர் (கடலும் கடல் சார்ந்த் நிலத்தின் தலைவர்) என்னைப் பிரிந்து சென்றார் என்பதை ஊராரெல்லாரும் அறியும் படி தூற்றிச் சொல்லாதோ”, என்று தலைவி தன் தோழியிடம் நொந்து கூறுவதாக உள்ளது இக்குறள்.

Transliteration:

turaivan turandamai tURRakol munkai

iRaiiRavA ninRa vaLai.

turaivan – my prince of ocean land

turandamai – that he left me

tURRakol – won’t it spread, for the town to know

munkai iRai – from the wrist in my forehand

iRavA ninRa vaLai – the bangle that may fall off any time (because they have become slim)

Because of lovers’ separation, the maiden has lost her weight, feeling miserable. “The bangles or bracelets that threaten to fall off anytime, because of my losing my health, and becoming pale and thin; Won’t that announce it to the world, about my lover, the prince of ocean land, leaving me in this miserable state?”, the maiden in lover to her friend, in this verse.

“The bracelet threatens to fall off the my wrist announcing

 to the town that my prince of ocean lands’ left me sobbing!
