அனிச்சப்பூக் கால்களையாள் பெய்தாள் நுகப்பிற்கு

நல்ல படாஅ பறை.

                        (குறள் 1115: நலம்புனைந்துரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)

அனிச்சப்பூக் - மென்மையான அனிச்சப்பூவின்

கால்களையாள் - காம்பினைக் களையாது

பெய்தாள் - தன் தலையில் சூட்டிக்கொண்டாள்

நுகப்பிற்கு - அவளிடை இதனால் வளைந்ததே

நல்லபடாஅ - அதன்கண் அவளுக்கு திருமணத்திற்காக அறையப்படாதே

பறை - பறை என்னும் முழக்கும் இசைக் கருவி

இடை மெலிந்தாள் என்பதைக் கூறும் விதமாக சொல்வதை பரிமேலழகர் உரை அமங்கலமாகச் சொல்வது சற்றும் பொருந்த வில்லை, அதுவும் நலம் புனைந்துரைத்தல் அதிகாரத்தில்! அனிச்சப்பூவே மென்மையானது. அதனைக் காம்பினை நீக்காது சூடிக்கொண்டதால், காம்பளவு அதிக எடையைக் கூட சுமக்க வியலாத நுண்ணிய இடை  தன் காதலிக்கு இருப்பதாகக் கற்பித்து, பின் அது மிகுந்த எடையைத் தாங்கவியலாது, வளைந்ததாகவும், அதனால் அவளுக்கு திருமணத்திற்குக் கொட்டப்படும் மணப்பறைக் கொட்டாமல் போகக்கூடும் என்று தலைமகன் கவலையுறுவதாக உள்ள குறள்.

ஆண்டாள் பாசுரங்களில் பறை என்ற சொல் பல இடங்களில் வருவதைக் காணலாம். “நாராயணனே நமக்கே பறை தருவான்” (பாசுரம் 1), “போற்றப் பறை தரும்” (பாசுரம் 10),  “பறை தருகியாகில்” (பாசுரம் 25), “உன்றனைப் பாடிப் பறைகொண்டு” (பாசுரம் 27), “நீ தாராய் பறை” (பாசுரம் 28)  என்று பல இடங்களில் ஆண்டாள் பாடியிருப்பதைக் காணலாம். இங்கெல்லாம் பறையென்பது ஒன்றை உரக்க அறிவிப்பது மட்டுமன்றி, மங்கலப் பறையாய் உணர்த்தப்படுவதையும் கவனிக்கவும்.

Transliteration:

anicchappUk kAlkaLaiyAL peidAL nugappoRku

nalla paDAa paRai

anicchappUk – The soft flower anichams’

kAlkaLaiyAL – stems not removing

peidAL – she decorated her hair with it

nugappoRku- Because of that her waist bent

nalla paDAa – and hence will not be played

paRai – the percussion instrument played during auspicious wedding occasion!

The man is proud that his lover has tender waist and expresses a false worry on that account. Parimelazhagars’ commentary makes it sound unauspicious, which is not the intent of VaLLuvars’ imagination, especially given the title of the chapter.

The Anicha flower is already so tender and soft, almost weightless; but the lover thinks, adorning it on her hair without removing its stem, has caused the waist of his lover to bend; because of that, perhaps her wedding may not happen and the auspicious instrument “paRai” may not be played. So worries the lover about his maidens’ tender waist.

AnDAl uses the word “paRai” in this auspicious context in her monumental work of “thiruppAvai” several times. It is not only announce something loudly, but in auspicoious context also.

“It is because that she adorned her hair with the Anicha flower not removing its stem,

 Her tender waist would bend; may not have an occasion auspicious “paRai” for them!
