குடிசெய்வல் என்னும் ஒருவற்குத் தெய்வம்

மடிதற்றுத் தான்முந் துறும்.

                    (குறள் 1023: குடி செயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)

குடிசெய்வல் என்னும் - குடியை உயர்த்துவது என் கடனென்று

ஒருவற்குத் - முனைப்போடு இருப்பவர்க்கு

தெய்வம் - இறைவனும்

மடிதற்றுத்  - தன் இடையுடையை இறுகக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு

தான் முந்துறும். - தானே முன்வந்து உய்யும் வகை செய்யும்

தன்குடியை உயர்த்துவதே தன் கடனென்று முனைப்போடு இருப்பவர்க்கு இறைவனும் தம் பங்குக்கு, தன்னுடைய இடை உடையை இறுகக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு (களத்தில் இறங்கி வேலை செய்வது போல), தாமே முன்வந்து உய்ய வகை செய்வான் என்கிறார் வள்ளுவர் இக்குறளில். தாம் பிறந்த குடியை ஒருவர் உயர்த்துவது என்பது, அவருடைய அறச் செயல்களாலும், ஆன்ற அறிவும், ஊக்கத்தொடு கூடிய முயற்சி இவற்றைக் கொண்டேயாம். அத்தகையவருக்கே இறைவனும் உதவுவான். ஒன்றுமே செய்யாத உதவாக்கரைக்களுக்கு அல்ல.

Transliteration:

kuDiseival ennum oruvaRkuth theivam

maDithaRRu thAnmun durum

kuDiseival ennum – having the resolve to uplift the lineage in stature as duty

oruvaRkuth – for someone

theivam – Even the Godhead

maDithaRRu – will tighten the belt

thAn mundurum – and will come forward to help

When a person has the resolve to uplift the staure of his lineage and work towards that, even the Godhead will come forward, tightening the belt under his waist (implies the resolve to help). To uplift the lineage one must be virtuous, and have the deep knowledges and excellent efforts. For such resolute person, even the Godhead wil help, not for the useless, laid-back people.
