நோய்நாடி நோய்முதல் நாடி அதுதணிக்கும்

வாய்நாடி வாய்ப்பச் செயல்.

                                    (குறள் 948: மருந்து அதிகாரம்)

நோய்நாடி - பிணியானது இன்னதென்று உடற் குறிகளாலும், வெளிப்பாடுகளாலும் அறிந்து

நோய்முதல் நாடி - அப்பிணியின் மூலகாரணம் என்பதை ஆராய்ந்து அறிந்து

அதுதணிக்கும் வாய்நாடி - பின்னர் அப்பிணி தீர்க்கும் வழியினையும் இன்னதென்று அறிந்து

வாய்ப்பச் செயல் - தக்க மருத்துவமும், மருந்தும் தந்து பிணியை நீக்க வேண்டும்

ஒருவர் பிணியால் பிணிக்கப்பட்டால், அது இன்னதென்று தோன்றும் உடற்குறிகளாலும், உடலிலிருந்து வரும் வெளிப்பாடுகளாலும் (வியர்வை, மலம், மூத்திரம், சளி, தோல் நிறம்) அறிந்து கொண்டு, அப்பிணி உற்றதற்கான வேராகிய மூல காரணத்தையும் ஆய்ந்தறிந்து, பின்னர் அதை வேரோடு அறுத்தலுக்குண்டாய மருந்தினையும் தந்து நீக்குதலே மருந்தின் இயல்பாகவும், மருத்துவர் திறமையாகவும் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

தணிக்கும் வாய்நாடி என்பது தொன்மையான இந்திய மருத்துவமுறைகளாம் ஆயுர் வேதம், சித்த வைத்தியம் போன்றவற்றில் விரிவாக, ஒவ்வொரு நோய்க்கும் சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளன. உதிரம் நீக்கல், அறுவை, மற்றும் சுடுதல் போல பல வழிகளை இம்முறைகளை அம்மருத்துவ நூல்களை படிப்போர் அறிவர்.

இக்கருத்தை நற்றிணை மற்றும் நீலகேசி பாடல் வரிகள் இவ்வாறு கூறுகின்றன.

“அரும்பிணி உறுநர்க்கு வேட்டது கொடாது மருந்தாய்ந்து கொடுத்த அறவோன் போல” (நற்றிணை)

“நோயைத் துணிந்தே உறுநோய்முதல் நாடி அந்நோய்க்கு ஆய மருந்தே அறிந்தூட்டும்” (நீலகேசி)

Transliteration:

nOinADi noimudal nADi aduthaNikkum

vAinADi vAippach cheyal.

nOi nADi – knowing what the disease by physical examinations and bodily signs

noimudal nADi – and understanding the root cause of the same

aduthaNikkum vAinADi – the finding the appropriate way to cure,

vAippach cheyal – treatement and medicine should be give to remove the ailment.

A disease must be identified by its external manifestations like skin color, eyes, tongue changes, including the excretions and secretions; then the root cause of the same must be researched well and proper course of medicine and other treatment forms must be undertaken to cure the sickness; such must be the nature of medicine and the skills of a doctor.

Olden ways of Indian medicine systems such as Sidda vaidya and AyurvedA have elaborate treatises that discuss several diseases, their signs, cures etc., including transfusion, burning wounds, and surgical procedures in some cases.

There are citations that allude to the theme of this verse in literary works nIlakEsi and NaRRiNai.

“Know the disease, its root cause and the procedures

 to cure the same by appropriate medicine and sutures”
