பொதுநலத்தார் புன்னலம் தோயார் மதிநலத்தின்

மாண்ட அறிவி னவர்

                                  (குறள் 915: வரைவில் மகளிர் அதிகாரம்)

பொதுநலத்தார் - பொதுமகளிராம் பரத்தையரின்

புன்னலம் - இழிதகை இன்பத்திலே

தோயார் - மூழ்கமாட்டார்

மதிநலத்தின் - சிறந்த இயற்கையாக அறிவினால்

மாண்ட – பெறப்பட்ட சிறந்த கல்வியோடு கூடிய

அறிவினவர் - அறிவுடையோர்

கூறியதையே மீண்டும் மீண்டும் கூறுகிற குறளிது. பொதுமகளிராம் பரத்தையரோடு கூடும் இழிதகை இன்பத்திலே, சிறந்த இயற்கை அறிவின் துணையோடு பெறப்பட்ட, சீர்த்தியான கல்வியறிவோடு கூடிய அறிவுடையோர் மூழ்கமாட்டார். கல்வியில் பெரியோர், மதிநலம் கொண்டு எச்சில் பண்டமென அம்மாதரைக் கருதி அகத்தூய்மை, மற்றும் புறத்தூய்மை இவற்றில் உறுதியுடன் இருப்பர் ஆதலால், அவர்களுக்கு பரத்தையரோடு கூட விழைவிருக்காது.

Transliteration:

podunalaththAr punnalam thOyAr madinalaththin

mANDa aRivi navar

podunalaththAr – women that sell themselves

punnalam – the cheap physical pleasures offered by them

thOyAr – in that, will not immerse themselves

madinalaththin – with the knowledge they are born with

mANDa – and the knowledge obtained through education

aRivinavar – wisemen.

Another repetitive verse. Nothing different from previous verse. Men of deep wisdom, with innate knowledge and the knowledge through extensive study shall not seek the cheap pleasures of women that sell themselves for anyone as a barter. Wise men, shall consider such women as impure and shall not seek their pleasure to keep their internal and external sanctity.

“Wisemen of innate and acquired knowledge shall not

seek the cheap pleasures of women that are harlot”
