முகத்தின் முதுக்குறைந்தது உண்டோ உவப்பினும்

காயினும் தான்முந் துறும்.

முகத்தின் - முகத்தைவிட

முதுக்குறைந்தது - அறிவின் முதிர்ச்சி மிக்கது

உண்டோ - ஏதேனும் இருக்குமா?

உவப்பினும் - உள்ளம் மகிழ்வுறினும்

காயினும் - வாடியிருந்தாலும்

தான் முந்துறும் - அதைத் தானே வெளிக்காட்டுமே!

முகம் என்பதே குறிப்பறியும் கருவியென்பதை வலியுறுத்தும் மற்றொரு பாடல். ஒருவரின் உள்ள உவகையையும், அல்லது வாடியிருப்பதையும், முகத்தைவிட முதிர்ச்சியோடு காட்டவல்லது வேறெது என்று கேட்கிறது இக்குறள்.

முதுக்குறைவு என்பதை அறிவின் முதிர்ச்சி அல்லது பேறறிவு என்று அகராதி கூறும்.  அகமும் முகமும் நெருங்கிய தொடர்புள்ளவை. ஒற்றுத் தொழிலில் இருப்பவர்களுக்கே தங்கள் உள்ளத்தை ஒளிக்கக்கூடிய தேவையுண்டு. சில நேரங்களில் அவர்களாலும் உள்ளத்து ஓட்டத்திற்கேற்ப முகம் மாறுதலை தவிர்க்கமுடியாது.

Transliteration:

Mugaththin mudhukkuRaindhadhu uNDO uvappinum

kAyinum thAnmun dhuRum

Mugaththin – anything other face

mudhukkuRaindhadhu – more experienced with wisdom

uNDO – is there?

Uvappinum – whether the mind is happy

kAyinum – or dejected

thAn mundhuRum – it showss without hiding it

This verse establishes that the face is an indicator of what runs in side anyone and hence is an instrument for anyone to read somebody’s mind. Is there anything better other than face to show both elation and dejection of heart and mind with wisdom gained through great experience? – asks, this verse.

The word “mudhukkuRaiu” means the wisdom gained through experience. Face, heart and mind are all interconnected to each other. Face becomes the external emotive frontage to what the mind thinks or the heart feels. People engaged in espionage have the need to hide their mind and heart from others. Even for them, in many situations, it would become difficult to conceal what their face would show of what they have inside.

“Is there anything better than a face that shows experience?

 Elation or dejection, it does not hide, shows their existence”
