அறிவினான் ஆகுவ துண்டோ பிறிதின்நோய்

தந்நோய்போல் போற்றாக் கடை.

                       (குறள் 315:  இன்னாசெய்யாமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

aRivinAn AkguvadhunDO piRindhin nOi

than nOipOl pORRAk kaDai

aRivinAn – because of knowledge or wisdom of a person

AkguvadhunDO – is there any use? (when)

piRindhin nOi – hardship, misery of others

than nOipOl – like own hardship or misery (is considerd)

pORRAk kaDai – to help them out of that?

What use is it to be knowledgeable or wise if a person cannot consider hardship of others as own and help? – Thus says this verse!

It is rare to see in most people the willingness to help people in hardship, painful misery. Such elevated thought is found only in a few elevated minds. After all the fruit of knowledge should be help the people in despare, Ascetics must practice this thought as their life’s code of conduct. Otherwise their penential wisdom is of no use.

A Kaliththogai verse expresses the same thought in this line : “piRar nOyum thannOipOl pORRi aRanaRidhal ChAnRavarkellAm kadan”

What use is it to be wise, if one cannot see others pain

Of hardship as own and help them out without refrain?

அறிவினான் - ஒருவருடைய கற்றறிவு, நோற்றறிவு இவற்றால்

ஆகுவதுண்டோ - பெறக்கூடிய பயனேதும் உண்டா?

பிறிதின் நோய் - மற்றவர்களின் துன்பத்தினை

தந்நோய்போல் - தனக்கே உற்றார் போல எண்ணி

போற்றாக் கடை - அவர்களை அவற்றிலிருந்து காப்பாற்றாமல் இருந்தால்

பிறக்கு வரும் துன்பங்களை தமக்கே உற்றார் போல் எண்ணி, அவர்களுக்கு உதவிசெய்து காப்பாற்றாதவர்கள் தாம் கற்று அறிந்ததிலும், நோற்று அறிந்ததிலும் ஏதேனும் பயன் உண்டா என்கிறது இக்குறள்.

இத்தகைய எண்ணச்செறிவு சிலருக்கே உரித்தானது, துறவு நிலை கொண்டோருக்கு இன்றியமையாதது. தம்மிடமே குற்றங்கள் இருப்பினும் பிறர் குற்றங்களைக் காணுகிற மனிதர்களே இருக்கிற உலகில், பிறர் துன்பங்களைத் தமக்கே வந்ததென எண்ணி ஆவன செய்வது உயர்ந்த உள்ளங்களுக்கே உரித்தானது.

“பிறர்நோயும் தந்நோய்போல் போற்றி யறனறிதல் சான்றவர்க்கெல்லாம் கடன்” என்னும் கலித்தொகைபாடலொன்று.

இன்றெனது குறள்:

மற்றவர் துன்பம்தன் துன்பம்போல் காணாதான்

பெற்றவறி வின்பயன்தான் யாது?
