குறளின் குரல் - 204

சீர்மை சிறப்பொடு நீங்கும் பயனில

நீர்மை யுடையார் சொலின்.

                              (குறள் 195: பயனில சொல்லாமை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

sIrmai siRappodu nIngum payanila

nIrmai yudaiyAr solin

sIrmai – propriety

siRappodu – and the esteem,glory and growth that comes out of ut

nIngum – will go away

payanila – useless vain-speak

nIrmai – worth, value and respect

udaiyAr – a person of such attributes

solin – if speaks

Those who have respectful status in the society because of their virtuous conduct, their esteem, and glory will leave them if the vain-speak.  A person’s virtues are in-born and nurtured. The esteem of the person is what people have for such virtuous qualities.

This verse implies that even if a drop of poison mixes with can of milk, the entire can is wasted. Like wise, if a person of good virtues and conduct gets diluted with even one bad attribute such as vain-speech then the glory, and the esteem are completely lost. It is difficult to earn esteem and good will, but to keep requires continuous strive.

தமிழிலே:

சீர்மை - ஒழுங்கும்

சிறப்பொடு – அதனால் வரும் ஆக்கமும் பெருமையும்

நீங்கும் – ஒருவரை விட்டு அகலும்

பயனில – பயனற்ற வீண்பேச்சை

நீர்மை – நிறை குணம்

உடையார் - உள்ளவர்கள்

சொலின் – பேசுவார்களானால்

சமுதாயத்தில் நல்ல மதிப்பு உள்ள நிறை குணம் உடையவர்கள், பயனற்று பேசினால், அவர்களுடைய இயல்பான ஒழுங்கும், அதனால் அவர்களுக்கு ஏற்படும் பெருமையும் அவர்களை விட்டு அகன்றுவிடும்.

சீர்மை என்பது, இயற்கையாகவும், நல்ல பழக்க வழக்கங்களினாலும் ஒருவருக்கு அமைவது. சிறப்பு என்பது அத்தகு சீர்மை குணத்துக்காக பிறர் அளிக்கும் மதிப்பு.

இக்குறளினால் ஒருகுடம் பாலில் ஒருதுளி நஞ்சு கலக்குமானால், முழுவதுமே பயனற்று போவதுபோல, நல்ல குணத்தை உடையவர்களுக்கு, ஒரு தீய குணம் வந்துவிடுமானால், அவர்களது முழுபெருமையும் அதனால் கெட்டுவிடும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. நல்ல பெயரை எடுப்பது மிகவும் கடினம். அதை தக்க வைத்துக்கொள்ளுதல் அதனினும் கடினம். தங்கத்திலே ஒரு குறையிருந்தால் அது தரத்தின் குறைவதுண்டோ என்று சொல்லமுடியாதபடியானவை இத்தீமைகள்

தொழுகும் நிறைமாந்த ருக்கு
