குறளின் குரல் - 30

சிறப்பொடு பூசனை செல்லாது வானம்

வறக்குமேல் வானோர்க்கும் ஈண்டு.

                                          (குறள் 18: வான்சிறப்பு அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

siRappoDu pUsanai sellAdhu vAnam

vaRakkumEl vAnOrkkum INDu

siRappoDu – With all the glory  and celebrations

pUsanai  - Offerings & prayers (to Gods)

sellAdhu – won’t happen

vAnam – the Clouds in the skies

vaRakkumEl  - dry up and won’t rain

vAnOrkkum  - to the Gods who are celestial beings

INDu – Here (on this earth)

Typical interpretation of this verse has been thus: If the clouds on the skies dry up and won’t rain, the consequent prosperity, happiness for the people on earth will not be there to have any celebrations or offerings, for celestial Gods.

Do they really care for all the celebrations on earth or even offerings for them? Once again, Godhead is a superior form devoid of any likes or dislikes. So, to think that it really matters to them is sheer lack of understanding of the very form.  

At the fact level, yes, when we don’t have happiness in our minds, and we feel so enervated to do anything exciting when we have no rains for seasons together. Rains bring prosperity to the human kind as evidenced by the things that happen because of rains, as mentioned in the previous verses.

In our theology, apart from Gods, we always worship our ancestors that have passed away, and believe their spirits continue live with us, guiding us always and in fond memory, do our annual offerings to them. This in a way is our thanks giving to our ancestors for all the experiences and prosperity they cultivated and left with us. It is truly sad, if we can not do these offerings and celebrations, on a regular basis because of our unhappiness and lack of prosperity due to failed/diminished rains.

If it were to simply be the offerings to celestial Gods, vaLLuvar would not have taken pains to dedicate a kuraL, which he has done in ample measure in other verses for valid reason.

சிறப்பொடு  - கொண்டாட்டங்களோடு கூடிய

பூசனை -  வழிபாடுகளும், படையல்களும் (இறைப்பொருளுக்கும், வாழ்ந்து முடிந்த முன்னோர்க்கும் செய்யப்படும்)

செல்லாது – நடைபெறமுடியாமல் போகும்

வானம் – மேகங்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கிற வானமானது

வறக்குமேல் – மழை பொழிய முடியாமல் வறண்டு போனால்

வானோர்க்கும் - இறைப்பொருளுள், மற்றும் வாழ்ந்து முடிந்த நம் முன்னோர்கள் (தென்புலத்தார்)

ஈண்டு – இவ்வுலகின் கண்.

இந்த குறளின் மேலோட்டமான பொருள், வானம் வறண்டு மழையினை வழங்காது போனால், வானவர்களாகிய தேவர்களுக்கு பூவுலகில் செய்யப்படும் சிறப்பான வழிபாடுகளும், படையல்களும் இல்லாமல் போகும் என்பதாம்.

ஆனால், விருப்பு வெறுப்பு இல்லாத இறைநிலை பெற்ற வானோர்களுக்கு, இதனால் வருத்தமோ, சினமோ ஏற்படுமோ என்று நினப்பதும், அதற்காக வருத்தப்பட்டோ, அல்லது அஞ்சியோ இந்த குறளைப் வள்ளுவர் வடித்திருப்பார் என்று நினைக்கமுடியவில்லை. அப்படி எண்ணுவது சிந்திப்பவரின் சிந்தனைக் குறையையும், புரிதலின்மையையும் காட்டுவதாகும்.

உண்மையின் நிலையில், மழை இல்லாது பல பருவங்கள் பொய்த்துப்போனால், வறட்சி, விளைவின்மை, குடிநீரின்மை, பசிக் கொடுமை போன்றவை தோன்றி, உலகுள்ளோரை ஆழ்ந்த வருத்தத்தில் ஆழ்த்திவிடும்.

முன்னே பேசப்பட்ட குறள்களில், மழையே பூமியின் வாழ்வாதாரம். பருவத்தே மழைபெய்தாலே, பூமியில் எல்லாவளமும் நிறைந்திருக்கும், மக்களும் மகிழ்வுடன் இருப்பர்.

நம்முடைய சிந்தனைமரபிலே, வாழ்ந்து முடிந்த நம்முன்னோர்களை நினைவுகூறும் வகையிலே ஆண்டுதோறும் வழிபாடுகள் நடத்தி, படையல் செய்வது வழக்கமாயிருக்கிறது. வேறு எந்த கலாச்சாரத்திலும் இல்லாத சிறப்பு இது. இந்த நன்றியறிதல் கூட பூமியிலுள்ளோர் மழையின்றியோ அல்லது குறைந்தோ வருந்துங்காலத்தில் நடைபெறாமல் தடைபட நேரிடுமாதலால், இதைப்பற்றி வள்ளுவர் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார். மழையின்றி போவதற்கும் காரணம் பூமியின்கண் வாழ்பவரின் பொறுப்பற்ற நடவடிக்கைகளாக இருப்பதினால், இதை ஒரு எச்சரிக்கையாகச்  சொல்வதாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ளலாம்.
